    Full Index and Cover

I recently learned REKO-F for DD, but have not implemented it yet. My question is whether or not to expect an additional benefit of cover with some index plays.

It seems logical to me that some of the more unusual index plays, such as hitting 12 v 5 and 12 v 6 among others, could have the added benefit of providing cover. Would it more likely be viewed as a sign of incorrect play rather than mastery? Does the pit or surveillance even care or closely track such things, especially in negative counts where an unusual play might occur?

    Thanks for any insight.

Seems you are on the right track. Don’t let paranoia get to you, just play. Like some others, far too often I have made the incorrect play at negative counts for the sake of avoiding ploppy displeasure. I am trying to make the correct play irrespective of others.

It's a good question...but impossible to really answer.
It depends on which casino, pit, how often you play, your bet level etc etc.
And hitting those hands will definitely bring the wrath of the ploppies, and in turn will bring attention from the pit etc.
If the casino thinks you are a loser...then yes, those plays might work for cover as you are hoping. But if they are already suspicious about you...then I say tread lightly.

On too many occasions to remember I've had ploppies threaten me for my poor play. In certain parts of the country the ploppies won't say anything but in other areas they can be extremely aggressive. Sometimes even what is really a basic strategy play can piss them off and have them lose their shit. I usually just say "oops, sorry I guess I should not have done that." Often times those "crazy" index plays will get ploppies off of your table. It can also get the attention of the rare, sharp floor person and cause them to give you some scrutiny when they hear from the other ploppies about your play. In the end it just comes down to doing what it takes to win.

If the ploppies complain, sell them your 12 v 6 or whatever. Everyone is happier.

Play the deviations. Usually, everyone will see that you play well most of the time and tolerate it. Just ignore everyone if they complain, or you can turn the table anger into cover. Most of the time you look like a bad player, so convince them it’s true. For the deviation, just do it, then confess your mistake if it makes them lose. They won’t care if they win. Then next time, ask what you should do and let the table talk you into something else.

Pretend you are clueless or making a hunch play to avoid scrutiny. But if they are truly evaluating you, your act won’t matter much.

Avoid the negative counts as much as possible, it significantly reduces the frequency of hitting hands with of 12 and 13 while improving your EV.

Nice post, and I agree. You must avoid some of the negative counts in today's games. And doing so, will almost eliminate the need to even make those negative deviations. Helps a lot.
And when you have to, do try to be seen as clueless...it shouldn't really be hard for most lol.
