As you always hear the ploppies or civilians state when you play a hand and get a 10 and the dealer makes his hand after............"Ahhh...you took the dealer's BUST card!"

But I guess any card that would break the dealer's hand can be called a "bust card"....LOL
When a dealer has a bust card (2-6) showing and someone says “you took the dealer’s bust card”, they mean that you took the card that would have resulted in the dealer going bust. The bust card is the dealer up card that shows the dealer having the probability of drawing a card and thus resulting in a bust.

ZeeBabar, I knew what you meant in the first post but I always used the same term interpretation wise that MJGolf goes by. No big deal.

I think that both opinions are correct. When players refer to the dealer's up card as a bust card, it means a low card. "Don't hit your stiff against that bust card". When replaying a hand after a questionable play, they mean the card that would have busted the dealer had a different play been made. "Oh man, you took the dealer's bust card".

I hear "bust card" meaning either of these all the time.

I'll take that under advisement. I do try to be discreet about it, never requesting the burn card when a Sup is watching, and never pointing to the card or the discard tray in case surveillance is watching. I generally make the request quietly to the dealer. The dealer then generally remembers my preference for subsequent shoes. But your point is well taken....

I disagree, if the game is deeply dealt. I have played 6d games with 40-50 cards cut off. That deep into the shoe (where RC=TC) , knowing that one extra card would give you a significantly more accurate TC (could affect your TC by +/- 1). Or am I confused?

You are correct, and even more so when you get down to 1/2 deck cut off. That's the money part of the shoe and the extra info can be material at that point.

By the way, how OFTEN does a dealer burn more than one card? I realize "it varies by casino," but by how much? If we randomly sample 100 casinos in the United States, will 6 or so have their dealers ROUTINELY burn more than one card? Or maybe the casinos instruct their dealers to burn more than one card only to send a message to suspected counters at the table?

Finally, when burning more than one card is done, is it done more frequently for double deck than for 6 or 8 deck shoes?

    Thanks.
