What are some of your worst memories from gambling trips..

Since there is a thread about best memories, I thought it just might be interesting to hear horror stories...maybe help some of us learn to expect and/or avoid them.

Remember a time when I booked air tickets to Las Vegas, unfortunately on one of their biggest event weekends. A day or two before the date of the flight, I tried to book a rental car and lowest I could get was over $50 a day (without insurance) and with fees was coming to $80 a day. I called casinos where I can get comped rooms but none were available. Searched on hotels.com and Priceline but even Motel 6 was over $100. Finally saw a Quality inn and booked it for 3 days, assuming it was Las Vegas. Picked up my car, then realized I had snagged a motel in Boulder City! Price line would not cancel it. I stayed a night, driving was too much, ended up taking a loss there, moved to a flea bit motel with awful bed, loud air conditioner, dopers and prostitution in the parking lot.

I have a few more but for now...

    For me that's typical.

My top three in no particular order.

    1) Bad weather. I've been caught in snow white outs where you can't see beyond the hood of your car. Other times been in snow so deep following the only other car track down the middle of the road late at night, praying another car doesn't come the other way. My latest run in with bad weather was just a couple of years ago, in trying to get to my destination before the storm hit. Just made it and stranded at the casino for three days in a 36 inch storm.

    2) Car breakdowns and flat tires. I seem to always get more than my share of flat tires. I also remember coming home from a blackjack trip when my alternator went. I was about 40 miles from home and was hoping my battery would have enough power to get me home. I turned off everything electrical I could, and I made it home just before dark.

    3) Blackjack back offs. I don't enjoy them. I have been backed off when I was down over a thousand.

Well, there was the time when I had a real successful visit to LV, won $3300 in 3 days, returned home, upgraded my car ((traded it in with the difference coming from my wins) the next day, went back to LV overconfident, lost $3800 on a 4 day trip.

And then, from years back when the tool was more reliable..

Oh, was it reliable....one never thinks of it as happening but it does, kinda like one never thinking you will get backed off till it does. Remember a time when I had not taken the lil blue pill, just won an short session, walked over to the bar to check out the nba game score and someone slips their hands in mine. Look down and right and there is this gorgeous young thing, with headlights sitting way up high, wanting to be driven right then! Up to the room convincing myself that the tool won’t disappoint me. Hand her my small session winnings, she takes the cover off herself and the bed, you look down and he is old reliable. She walks into the bathroom, takes a damn long time (actually maybe 5 minutes) and the tool decides to go to sleep. Luckily, the gorgeous young thing feels she has never failed at starting a tool, tries hard and eventually, the tool half wakes up, finishes and goes back to sleep....the same f&$ing tool that would be ready for 3-4 rounds now don’t wanna be bothered.

    26 miles/ 33 minute is a short distance drive.

For Las Vegas, it’s not. I am used to going back to my room often. I leave in the morning, come back after 1:00 p.m., (the maid has made the room) take a nap, leave at 3:00, return at 7:00pm. Maybe, take a break, eat, go back out again, play till 1:00 a.m., return to room, sleep till 8:00 a.m., back out.

if every time I return to my room, it’s an hour of driving, that’s 3 hours wasted.

I don't take 'gambling' trips. I take trips to make money and unwind a bit. Worst memories.....getting backed off and then have my comped room denied and charged 30% more per night than listed on their website (with wife and kid with me). 2nd one......splitting 2's three times and doubling three of the four hands against the dealer 6. Hole card was a 5....next card was paint. That one hurt and still gives me heartburn when I see 2's.

I had a similar experience with a better ending.

About 15 years ago, was at FW with family in comped suite. Played Sp21 for hours in MGM portion, no issues. Played BJ in main casino for a bit, then went to Newport room. After a short time, shift mgr introduced himself and said no more BJ, all very polite. I was tempted to ask him if that included Sp21, but didn't. Then he said, "I know you're here with your family. As long as you don't play here any more, we'll keep your room as a comp for the night." They did zero out my comps, however. I had access to the VIP lounge on 18th (?) floor, so we went there for dinner. A bit surprising that they let us in. Every time a suit walked in the room, I thought they were going to toss us, but it didn't happen.

I am always amazed at how the comps and the entire “back off” system works.

    1. I got into the famous data base, identified as Advantage Player with my name and a pretty good clear picture and yet, nothing much happened with comps anywhere.

    2. At one chain, I am comped in the hotel, the pit boss addresses me by name even when I am not using my players card, says I cannot play BJ there. I keep my room, play at its other casinos in the same town.

    3. At two other casinos, I get politely backed off. At one, I am sternly addressed, told I will not be allowed to play at any of its properties. I am staying at one of their property where I get dining credit and table play for which Zi use my players card and play.

Here, I have heard of players being flyered all over town and trespassed but none of it is happenning yet.
