    Which game would you choose.....

Rules are H17, no surrender, 3:2, das, standard rules apply. Reasonable spread, 1-5 in DD, 1-12 6 deck and 8 deck. Rounds at same speed.

    1. DD table has pen of .8 deck cut off, 3 spots occupied, you can take the 4th.

    2. 6 deck table, 5 spots being played, you would get the sixth and last spot. Pen of 1.2 deck cut off

    3. 8 deck table. Empty, you get to play heads up. 1.5 deck cut off.

    Which would you choose...and why.

I would choose #3. But I would look for something better like an overdose of morphine.

It always baffles me why you can't/won't use the Summary SCORE tables of Chapter X to look these things up yourself. The answers are right there in front of you, with a little simple interpolation. In any event, because of being able to play alone, the 8-deck game is slightly better than the DD game. The 6-deck game is last by far. FWIW, both the 1-5 and 1-12 spreads are woefully inadequate for these games. Technically, the DD game is, by far, the best, but not by the 2.5 times it needs to be (five total hands) vs. the 8-deck game (two total hands).

Bottom line: I wouldn't play any of them your way.

Don, I will try to look up and understand Chapter X. However, your answers help. What occurs in my local casinos is that they generally have only 1-2 DD games, $25 minimum, and often I catch one empty, start playing and very shortly, looks like ploppies who did not want to play heads up, join and sit at table, making the number of spots go back up to 4 or more. I then have to either go home or play $25 minimum 6 deck games, available empty, but I am uncomfortable putting in a max bet of $200+, or play full $10 minimum 6 deck games.

On DD games, I do sometimes use a 1-6 spread but mostly 1-5. It’s just that I have returned to play at casinos that used to countermeasure me, now under new ownership and some new pit people and I don’t want to get countermeasured. On my trips, I play 1-6 spread, occasionally squeezing in a 1-8 spread.

I just got to get comfortable playing 6 deck games at the $25 min. Tables.

Simple solution that will work most of the time - don't try to be Mr. Popularity, succumbing to the will of the table in how to play your hand in the event of an index play. For example, 12v3, 16vT, and so on. If you took the dealer's bust card by hitting/standing against the advice know-it-alls next to you, maybe they'll avoid you in the future. Another one is switch back and forth between one and two hands to "mess up the flow of the cards."

It drives some of them crazy, and they often leave. Pretend you don't know what is even happening.

I thought for sure 1-12 spread can beat 8 deck, especially with semi-wonging or backcounting?

I choose #2. Take a restroom break when count is very negative. Let the others eat the small cards.

No way I want to play 6 handed, unless your goal is to milk comps by playing ultra slow at a higher bet level. Also don't want to play DD more than 3 handed. So I would wait for a player to leave or for someone to sit at the 8D so I could backcount.

If the dealer is fast the 8 deck has potential. Sweet talk the dealer into cutting off only 1 deck if you can. The biggest issue is that you don’t want to play all, so when the count dives you are stuck. I have walked away and 30 mins later came back to the same damn shoe, not one hand played.

Hope for one other player to show up and help eat up negative counts while you manage to avoid playing hands.
