He didn't say he ran out of money, so he left. He got up because the blackjack gods were mad at him and made him lose while big bets were out. As we all know, this is something that should never happen. Where's wave with his annoying WTF pic when you need him?

Why it's mistake?

As 21forme explained, it’s a mistake to walk away from a positive shoe “if the goal is strictly making money” and I have explained before, my goal as a recreational counter with family is to never allow BJ to mess up my evening, my mood etc. Thus, I set my boundaries and ensure I never lose so much in one session or one trip that it would cause me temporary depression, sadness, ill mood, etc. In that situation, there was no upside. Could have lost $200 or over $800.

In a local casino at a 6 deck, $10 minimum, game, I don’t want to lose over $600 in one shoe, in my short trips (25 hours play over 3-4 days), it’s about $5k.

This way, I never have lasting pain....that I take home to the spouse and kid.

In that situation, there was no upside.

The upside is you could have won all your losses back, plus some.

A stop loss is no different than a stop win. You're only locking in that moment. You're not affecting the long term expectation at all, other than making it take longer to reach.

My favorite memories are "trips" I took early in the poker boom. I used to come home from work and log on to UK poker sites. I would be fresh, while most of my opponents were drunk and tired because of the 8 hour time difference, playing after midnight UK time. It was so easy to make money back then on my nightly "trip" to the UK without ever leaving the house. It was like fishing with explosives. The fish just kept floating to the surface waiting to be scooped up.

80% of the online rooms closed. The free bonus and sign up money that were giving out to new players dried up. I spent more time driving my kids to soccer, basketball, dance etc......

So many things happened, but really the remaining players were getting better, and I didn't have the time to put into improving my game without sacrificing family time, so my AP activities went on hold. My BJ career was already on hold for the family, but the poker boom let me still make some AP moves from home, especially in the earliest days of internet poker.

At 70+, I try to make each day and each night pleasant, I don’t play for some “long term expectation”. If I lose too much, I feel bad and so I avoid it. Tomorrow is another day. Win $200, I am happy, lose $600 and I can handle it, lose more and it affects my mood.

I took a three-night trip not too long ago where I won every single session I played except for one. In the one losing session I lost less than $100.

We all remember those awful losing streaks, but when it goes your way for a long time it sure is fun.

I dont just play BJ, but some of my best memories so far include....(not just on trips)


-making comebacks if a session br failed.

-My funniest memory was making my very first cover play for longevity purposes. The twist? My “cover play” winds up being another very nice AP move. Oops. It’s funny when you want something to fail and it never will. Lolol!


-I’m sorry but the most fun so far for me as a rec player (sorry non BJ) is watching nfl on Sunday @ home! Sport betting with family and friends has made my Sundays awesome! I got the best view via the flatscreen to be near ALL the Action via NFL network. Thank god its legal finally! Sharp much?

I was "laid off" (fired) from a really crappy consulting job on a Monday early last year...on that Friday I went to a relatively close store during the day, one that I hadn't been to in years, and hit a $100k sidebet...even sweeter was I would've been in management planning meeting that day had I still been employed by that pathetic firm....Justice WAS served!
