What Are Some of Your Good Memories From Gambling Trips

Believe it or not, winning a lot of money is always nice, but I have enjoyed many other simple things very much.

    Some of my favorite things.
    1) In the early 2000's there was a comet that was visible late at night. I don't remember its name, but back then going home at 3:00 am on a pitch dark clear sky night in the middle of no where I found the comet to be very visible to the naked eye along with its tail. I remember pulling over and getting out to get a good look at it. This was visible for several blackjack trips.
    2) I enjoy traveling in the late fall when there is a rain storm that is half snow. The flakes will melt on your windshield, but it is always dark and gloomy. Something exciting about this.
    3) In early spring when the fields are first starting to become bare I always enjoy watching the herds of deer that show up to graze in the fields. Again I often pull over to watch them for awhile.
    4) Once in awhile I get a treat to see a bald eagle along the side of the road having some road kill to eat. Again I often pull over to watch.
    5) I enjoy looking at all the Christmas decorations the casino has put up. Something cozy about this.
    6) I remember getting comped to a great Thanksgiving buffet. Really good turkey and mashed potatoes. Yum, yum.
    7) I remember having the waitress ask me to play her tip money for her at blackjack. She said I always win. Made me feel like I was a good blackjack player.
    8) I have always enjoyed the hugs and kisses I got at the blackjack table. Doesn't happen anymore in my old age.
    9) And finally, I always enjoy staying up late in my hotel room with CNN on the TV and me talling up my session results.

I was sitting at a table at Potowatomi by myself on a weekend night. I was in my late 20s then. 2 guys sit down, one in his 40s and the other in his 60s, and they start playing with me. We started chatting and found out we all graduated from the same high school. The entire table went on a heater and we couldnt lose. We were so into the game and having a good time we started chanting our high school mascot as the dealer would turn over her cards. For a stretch of like 30 minutes she did nothing but mostly bust and we would erupt in cheers every time. I was red chipping so my $500 win for the night was pretty satisfying. Definitely the most fun I've had at the tables.

You don't have TV and/or cable at home?

Since there are no mountains nearby, I always love the Las Vegas trips in the winter, cloudy and gloomy back home, sunny and lovely with a bit of snow on top of the mountains. Love Colorado in the summer for the same reason, mountains and creeks.

This is both good and funny.

Was playing at the Roman emperor place in AC. Had one of those magic shoes where I couldn't lose a hand. I won about 15K that shoe. A crowd had gathered around the table. I decided to take a break when the cut card came out. Colored up and after I got up, people were fighting for my lucky chair.

Gotta learn to play 6 decks. Today, I lost hand after hand as the count climbed up. Pen was about 1.2 decks. Went to 2 x $100 at TC +4, lost, TC now up +5 with 2.5 deck remaining, lost 2 more $100 bets, TC +4, lost two more $100 bets, down almost $650 in a $10 min. Game. I was playing solo and then a rude ploppy couple sat down, each placed $10 on their spots, $5 each on side bets and Zi walked, count still up a TC+3 with probably 1-2 rounds left.

    I hate 6 decks!

    Is this your good memory?

WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU DO THAT? Did you really let someone steal ALL of your good cards instead of just some of them? Why do you sabotage yourself? Do you expect sympathy for your results when you choose to quit while you have an advantage?

Here is how you play 6 decks: Finish the shoe when the count is positive!

1998. I was interviewing for a job as head of arts and culture with the City of Reno. They put me up at the Silver Legacy. The interview was at 1. I sat down at a table full of locals at 10 am with a $200 bankroll, $5 a hand. And played three hands at $15 each. Only woman at the table.
I got into the zone. I couldn’t lose. I split, I doubled down. Got blackjack on all three hands. The dealer busted 7 times in a row. The green chips piled up. I kept saying I had to go to a job interview and the guys kept saying, “Sure you do, honey”. At 12:45 I got up and cashed out with $1267. On a gambler’s high like no other. I floated the few blocks into City Hall.
The interview was a multi-staged one that lasted 4 hours. One part was giving a hypothetical speech about the arts to the local Rotary club. “Gamblers and artists are defined and redeemed by risk” I started, quoting Dostoyevsky.
Of course, I was offered the job. And turned it down to accept a competing offer in Raleigh—in a state that didn’t even have a state lottery.
It just didn’t seem wise to work at an office within blocks of my only vice. But what a day.
