    Handling heat....

    Hope the big players share...

My biggest difficulty is handling heat, especially at $25 minimum games. Often, the tables on main floor are near the pit podium and if I sit down, maybe playing alone or with one player. I can feel them looking at me, looking at the cards, looking at my stack of chips and if this happens, my betting ramp gets affected and I might seriously be underbetting or have to quit a great game if up a few hundred dollars. I don’t know if I am scared of back offs or reacting prematurely.

If I am playing under different circumstances, lots of DD tables, lots of players, presence of big bettors etc., I am not affected in my betting but often the number of players increase and the DD game gets tougher, fewer rounds, etc.

I still don’t have confidence in $25 min., 6 deck games (where the heat seems less) and don’t know the tipping point when the 6 deck games becomes more attractive than the DD game (penetration, number of players, heat etc.).

Anyone want to share how to handle these issues?

Lots but they don’t really address heat except for some cover plays. Jerry Patterson, Wong, Uston, Revere, Don S., many others. I was just stating my experience, how I react, my admiration for the big AZp’s.

Every pit boss periodically came to table and look at my chip level. It is their job to key in data to the computer to track every player's winnings or loss. Especially often I am the solo winner at the table and have a lot of chips. It may take him or her one minute to figure out how much chips I have. THIS NEVER AFFECTS ME ANY WAY, ESPECIALLY MY BET RAMP. If one day I reach their threshold so they ban me from playing BJ, that would be it. The worry won't do me any good now.

U have to be mentally ill, then u can card count at a hi level. Go meet some people that made 500k or more from bj there all not right in the head.

I don’t know what to tel u when ur getting crush u just have to keep betting and playing optimally. I guess I made a pretty good homeless plan b so I just say the casino hasn’t taken all my bankroll yet let’s see if they can get it while I play optimal. As long as I’m playing plus ev they never have and they never will. Counting is fun is gunna go broke

My goodness, ZeeBabar you are about 70 years old now and you are worried about heat, get your priorities in order will ya. You already play a polite game where you keep a reasonable spread and you keep your wins/losses very moderate, with short visits what else are you supposed to do? If they throw you out, start taking walks worrywart. When you are walking then you can think about your kids who may be planning to put you in a home shortly and inherit everything. Being barred from playing blackjack at seventy years old should not be a major catastrophe in your life.

But Bosox, there ain’t many other things left for me to enjoy, don’t want to lose casinos too. Ladies and sex have gone, driving manual transmission fast coupes gone because reaction times, creaking bones make getting into low slung cars tough and driving dangerous, being introverted, ain’t too many friends nearby to hang out with so looking forward to BJ trips is it. A lot of pit folks in my favorite destinations seem to know me and I am easily identifiable. Get backed off and lost a few casinos already, hate to lose those places.

Having dealt, I guarantee you a lot of perceived heat isn't heat at all. Yeah, the guys on here betting big money are likely getting it. But if you are betting less than $150 or $200 a hand, they likely are just watching to see if they may need to get a fill, or making sure a newer dealer isn't overpaying. The floor is anal about black, purple and orange cheques so they want to account for any changes. You can call out "cheques play" or "black action" all you want but good chance no reason to worry. I remember dealing double deck and a guy was likely counting; he spread $25 to $500. He had a good shoe or two and I was like, OK lets see what you got and buried him in the third shoe. The reality is most (floor) have no idea what to look for. They think doubling down on hard 12 is a bigger signal of a card counter than sporadic use of insurance. Surveillance may watch but a good chance they are watching high limit, bacc, craps or looking for attractive women. It definitely gave me the perspective to never waste money on cover in my play.
