Thread: Marginal Games

I’ve struggled with this myself. I took an 8 month hiatus from playing and went through a brutal losing streak too (which I’m glad to say I’m finally out of). I started re-building my roll by targeting really good games again last year and luckily I’ve experienced amazing positive variance since last summer, but now the back offs have been coming again after recycling a lot of old casinos that I’ve been backed off in the past. I also have a casino that’s close to home (4 hrs away), but the rules and pen are very mediocre/below average, like the OP describes. I’ve also considered if I should play this game as well. Extremely tolerant casino, so they’d probably let me play forever (Betting up to 2x400). But the game isn’t that good, so the only way I feel like i could justify this game would be by using a big spread (1 to 50 ish), aggressively Wonging in/out, and obviously shopping for the best pen I can. I still haven’t decided if that’s the route I want to take though.

I won my first 150 units back in my red chipping days in a crappy ass 8D H17 DAS NRSA S4 NP NS 75% pen stadium game that was 50 hands per hour. That was a whopping .77% house edge but since it was an unmonitored stadium blackjack with shoe, I was able to Wong in and camp forever. I was also only playing TC +1 and CVCX capped my spread to 1:7 to keep ROR to 1%.

It took me maybe like 200-300 hours but I was starting and there was nothing better close to me.

Some would say it’s a waste of time, but staying home watching Netflix is $0 EV.

Fast forward 1.5y now I’m black chipping at the best rules 6D will get you.

You have to start somewhere and sadly red chip games outside of Vegas or some other areas outside the U.S. are very hardly beatable.

The *only* game I had anywhere near me was a bad game, but the penetration (which I see as one of most important factors) was exceptional. It went from a S17 DOA 8 deck game, to H17 D9-11 game 8 deck game - pen was sometimes 0.5-1.2 decks.

What's the harm in attacking it with a big spread and/or wonging if that's what it takes to get decent EV? If they won't let you play with the spread you need to justify the time you're spending, then you didn't need that game anyway. If you're backed off, you're no worse off than if you'd just skipped the game.

No harm in it at all. If I do play that game, that’s absolutely the only way I’ll play it; huge spread, aggressive Wonging, and zero cover! That’s not my issue. I know for a fact the casino will take it. I’m just debating if that’s the route I want to go. Because even under those circumstances, N0 will still be much higher compared to a decent DD game or even compared to a really good 6D game. It’s tempting though because it’s close to home (as opposed to needing to fly somewhere and rent a car).

And as everyone here knows, he’s had his degen moments and lost almost everything to baccarat and poker, it still doesn’t change the fact that when it’s come to blackjack, he’s absolutely crushed the game! Hmm ok so I guess we will just have to take his and your word that "he has won 7 figures solely from the game of blackjack".
I don't believe that for a minute. From his posts, and I think all have been deleted anyway. Smallcap doesn't even have any posts here anymore.
And I definitely don't take advice from someone who has "supposedly" won 7 figures and then lost it all or more back.

Believe what you want. I’ve seen enough that adds to his credibility.

ignore him, the guy does not believe anyone, Freightman, Stealth, Bosox, SCG and others are real AP’s as good as the great red chip counter that he is, having fun. Heck, he even questions Don S. And Norm.

Thank all you guys for getting my back. It means a lot. Who care how much I won or how much I lost. This is an ego thing and not really all that important. I don’t talk about blackjack and talk disgusting stuff cause old school people know my knowledge, and I really have zero interest making anyone else better. This shit is hard and harder to find games and yes even the poor pen shoe games have heat at places that used to be heatless.

Think I’ll add one more to emphasize the stupidity of the author of post 23.

I was headed to a city which was part of my general rotation. Scouting reports of a new guy in town, including cell phone photographs, had been provided to me by my contacts. They included rather large buyins (I would specify the amount, except that in itself would help identify) and a somewhat laid back style.

I entered the hi limit room of a particular store, noted the rather large phallic stack of purples, accompanied by an additional pile of collapsed purples, from which various bets were proffered. The yellows were neatly stacked. I immediately knew who it was, and ironically, he immediately knew who I was (from scouting reports provided to him, I would assume).

Both of us were playing heads up - me being the supposed local, he being the casual tourist, as we engaged in casual conversation across the pit from each other. It’s not often you see that dollar value of chips on the table - the rather logical inference being very significant.
