Hotel Recommendation for Downtown Las Vegas

I was thinking about making a trip to downtown Las Vegas probably in the second half of April. I never seen or stayed in the downtown area and looking for a reasonable place to say. It would probably be for a week. However, I don't want some dump, but it doesn't have to be the best either. I won't have any comps so will have to pay the entire cost.

Main Street Station/ California. Also 4 Queens does not charge a resort fee.

Only place I'd even think about staying is Golden Nugget. Go during winter; get out of the tundra.

ETA - I forgot - it's still winter in late April.

Most of the downtown casinos are not updated. Golden Nugget is probably the best choice. But, it's still a small casino crammed into a tight spot. Downtown is much cheaper if you're on a budget. Food options pale in comparison to what is on the strip. If you're looking for playable games. There are some. But they won't last long.

Downtown Grand is probably a decent option. Newer hotel, avoid Fremont Street noise late night, super sweaty bj at any stakes so no loss not to play there. Rooms you are likely to get in the core of Fremont (4 queens, D, Golden Gate, Fremont) it’s near impossible to sleep before 1 am without ear plugs if you’re a light sleeper, even with the ear plugs doesn’t completely drown out noise from stage or obnoxious music downstairs in the case of D/Golden Gate.

Many of the hotels downtown have had at least many rooms remodeled perhaps budget remodels within last half dozen years or so, rooms are generally in better shape than the bottom 6-10 cheapest places on the strip or Rio (Excalibur’s/Luxor,flamingo, circus, strat, TI) if that’s your alternative.

Actually, it’s a lie. There is a r3sort fee they don’t call it one. I just put this in and I get

    Price Per Night was $90

    PRICELINE VIP
    $64.23
    1 Room x 4 Nights $256.92
    $119.60
    Total Charges $376.52

$119.60 in taxes and fees for a $64 a night room?

MWP, you may already have comped rooms downtown. Check your Bconnected account and look under 'special rates' for Las Vegas casino's. Boyd has been comping rooms at the Fremont and Main Street Station based off play at Orleans etc. I personally would call the DT Grand players club and tell them you normally stay on the strip and looking to stay downtown, could you wave the resort fee's? Same thing with the Plaza. If staying at the Plaza, get a room facing the pool and not Fremont....much quieter.

4 Queens. Personally, it’s too loud on any of the casino hotels on Freemont street plus invariably people start returning to their room after midnight, sometimes drunk, often loud and walking down to their rooms on the floor. On occasion, I have had to call security because the room next door had couples arguing upon return to room (maybe lost/spent more money than planned) or come to room, turn on adult TV with porn sounds.

These days, I opt to stay in hotels (no resort fee) and a bit away, off strip or a mile or two away from downtown.

I really don't care if there is a resort fee or not. I just look at the total price and divide it by the number of days I'm staying to compare properties.

I was thinking about either Main Street Station or the Downtown Grand. However, one thing I noticed was the Golden Nugget will give a 20% discount for AARP while the others only give 10%.

I do have CBJN and noticed some downtown casinos are database participants. Any chance somebody could weigh in on which downtown hotels are really sweaty. I already know about the sweaty Spainiard.

I did several price checks for downtown Las Vegas hotel casinos the week of April 29, 2020 to May 6, 2020. This appears to be a low price week for most of the downtown hotels. I don't know why. In my case, in order to get cheap enough airfare I have to travel on a Tuesday or Wednesday with a Sat night stay over. I wish I could just go Monday to Friday, but then the airfare is outrageous without that Sat night stay over.

The room I checked prices on were for double queen or standard double. Here are the results for total cost including all fees and taxes.
    Downtown Grand: 7 nights $787.47 or $112.50 a night
Main Street Station: 7 nights $659.85 or $94.26 a night
    California Hotel: 7 nights $750.25 or $107.18 a night
Plaza Hotel: 7 nights $671.72 or $95.96 a night (also has free shuttle to airport)
4 Queens: 7 nights $571.68 or $81.68 a night (this includes AARP discount)

I really don't want to be in a noisy area. Any suggestions on these hotels. I ruled out Golden Nugget as too expensive. Would be almost a thousand for 7 nights.
