Thread: Does the casino's ambiance matter to you?

The darkest casino I was ever in is the Santa Fe Station in LV 10-12 years ago. One area was so dark I actually had trouble seeing my cards. It was also the grubbiest casino I have ever seen. Pictures from a Google search today appear much brighter and cleaner than I remember.
Last year, I sat next to a table with a drunk couple swearing loudly in three languages. I joined their conversation (mostly in English) and had a ball.
My answer to the OP's question: No, a casino's ambiance doesn't matter to me.

The ambiance makes no difference to me, except the less smoke the better. However, as I've gotten older, I do tend to avoid the unpleasantness of playing in extreme dumps and/or dangerous neighborhoods, such as the long-gone Western in Las Vegas or the somehow still-standing Isle of Capri in Kansas City.

The lighting and ambience don't really matter to me, but they are important to my wife. She likes the old school atmosphere of something like El Cortez the best

Dark with soft lighting & high ceilings. Winding layout, small rooms and pits...
Really dislike all the blinking and dinging of most modern casinos. Feels mickey-mouse-ish.

The ambience at the Ramada is too much like the Downtown East Side of Vancouver. I can just go for a walk down the alleyways off East Hastings if I want to see hookers and drug deals.

On the other hand, some of the old closed Reno casino's had great atmosphere. I especially liked Harold's Club with the balconies on the second floor looking down on the pit.

The music is what makes one better for me. Some genres Zi like, others not so.

Years ago, I was almost the victim of a robbery in the street, outside a dumpy little casino in Vancouver. If I remember correctly, the pit was downstairs, with the stairs right at the entrance. Might have been on Broadway? I think it's long gone now. Do you recall this place, and was it in the neighborhood you describe?

What an awful place, though the Cal-Neva sportsbook was a good place to stuff in parlay cards for a long time. I haven't been inside Diamond's in years. Long ago there, a drunk threw a beer bottle at me in the parking lot for some perceived annoyance I apparently caused him.

Awesome response.......the biggest pain in my ass is when one of the 'fat ugly twats' take 20-30 seconds to slowly check their cards to see if they have a 'match'. Holy shit, just check already you asswipe!!

I been to several casinos that has Queen's "Another one bites the dust" on their play list. Terrible song for a casino.

West Broadway is a decent area and nothing like the DTES.
