How can I figure out how good the comps are from afar?

In the debate between Players Card or no Players Card, I believe there are certain casinos where it is good to have the card, and other casinos where you don't want the card. Case in point, my "local" casinos in Wendover give incredibly good comps. While the next closest casinos in Mesquite give terrible comps as well as my story of being backed off there. My goal with Mesquite was to set up an alternate play area in order to preserve my longevity in Wendover. However, I naively thought that Wendover's comps were standard, when they are in fact incredibly generous. In my backoff thread, someone suggested I read The Blackjack Insiders by Andrew Uyal. That was my first Blackjack book and well worth the read. Mr Uyal, speaking from the perspective of a pit boss, said that at least in smaller more local casinos, not using a players card is viewed as very suspicious.

I am curious as to how to figure out how good the comps are at a particular place. I’ve always thought that you had to either just play there or know someone who has played there. That last sentence you put is the reason why I’ve decided to get a player’s card.

Wendover comps are not as good as they were a few years ago. I had no problem getting Platinum status a few years ago and now I have a difficult time just to maintain my Gold status.

However, if you look at the dates they give big comp multipliers, it is always on the weekends. Maybe that is why you think the comps are so great.

In my opinion it is always good to have The Player's Club Cards. People have said that they don't play with Player's Cards because they want to play unrated. I don't agree with that thinking because why wouldn't you want to get comped for your time and money? If you lose and you play with no PC, you just lose. Now if you play with the PC and you lose, you get points, Tier Upgrades, discounted and free food, free and discounted hotel room, shows, spa perks, etc! Would you rather just lose or lose and get lots of perks? I know which one I want and it's the latter.

But what if you win? What if you get so good you're a long-term winner? And then the casino realizes that and who you are, and bans you? Then you can't play anymore?

That is the reason why people don't play rated.

I personally play rated at some places (used to be all the time) but I've started playing rated at fewer places.

I am talking about people who lose more than they win . Obviously, if you win too much that's going to be a red flag to the Casino and they will give you negative attention. You could use the PC however, for times you lose more than you win and play without it when you win more than you lose. Perfect balance and a win win.

I wish I knew the times I was going to lose. I would stay home and not even go to the casino.

I am very close to Platinum status, but I did play at least two weekends under 3x tier points. Have you played there during the week? Less crowds I would imagine. Even weekends are a ghost town there at like 4-7 AM, so next trip I plan to go to sleep in my room when the fun buses arrive, then set my alarm for 4 AM or something.

I try to avoid playing weekends in Wendover if I can help it. I much prefer playing during the week. I have been there on a Friday night and didn't like it. For all the effort I put in getting to that place, I haven't done very well there.

On my last trip to Wendover, I won only a little over $300 at blackjack over a 3 day period (about 13 hours of play). I must admit Wendover gives me the most free play of any place I played at this year, but by the time I get there I'm pretty well exhausted.

However, my last trip to Wendover which included other casino stops along the way, did yield a win of over $1,100 for the entire trip including free play winnings. I actually did better at these other casinos than I did in Wendover.
