    Think I lost a chain...

I have Players cards from most of the casino chains found in alas Vegas and MS. In my early years, I used them often, got away with it (probably because I was not very good) and after getting into OSN, have been more judicious when I use a Players Card.

Using a Players Card worked for me when I felt excessive heat or attention. The Players Card often significantly reduced heat as they tended to keep a close eye when I played anonymously, moved away to other tables when I used my Players Card. It still does at all chains except one! Maybe this chain noticed that I had been winning more than I was losing at their casinos.

in any case, on my last trip, heat increased after I handed in my Players Card. It’s almost like they have a notation by my name in their computers. As soon as they swiped my card at this chain’s casino (and it happened a few times), they gave me peculiar glances, keep coming to my table, watch me play. It was very disconcerting. I played ultra short sessions, walked away, return to another pit or table, same thing. Finally, at one casino, where I just spread 1-3 on a DD game, went down $600, slowly came back up to even, maybe up a $100 and security came up.

I got a tap on my shoulder, asked to please step away, then told that I cannot play Blackjack but was welcome to play anything else. I did not argue (maybe my quiet compliance affirmed their decision) and left.

I played at 3 different casinos of the same chain, used a Players Card, was backed away just once but received greater heat after they swiped my card. However, they did not remove me from my comped room at one of their casino.

I guess they must have some notation on their computer but only one place took action. Other casinos had no problem with my using their players card.

I have been reducing how often Zi use a Zplayers card but at that one chain, I will only use it as long as they keep my comps up.

Most of the more experienced players on the forum have told you for years not to play rated. You argued, saying it didn't matter. It finally caught up to you.

    Time to play unrated.

i can’t agree with you on the first part as I am still using comped rooms on my trips, most of which I could not have afforded without 5he comps. I mean, it costs me $150 RT airfare, another $100 in car rental and $100 in miscellaneous for a 3 day trip to alas Vegas. If I paid for rooms and all my meals, those short visits would be impossible.

Yes, it’s time to play unrated but I have much to learn about playing under significant scrutiny, about disguising my play. With a Players Card and almost no scrutiny, I always start with the $25 min, bet with count, and pretty much bet according to count though not optimally. When I play unrated, have heat, sometimes I don’t increase my bet or underbetting and sometimes, I don’t reduce m6 bet. Also, I deal poorly with back offs, get depressed when they happen.

Well he has never been one to listen to sound advice. And becomes very hard headed when someone disagrees with him and/or suggests he is wrong. Yet he still talks like a pro.

Can't wait for his so insightful response.

If YOU disagree with me, start by telling when and if you ever played rated. Then, tell us why I am wrong. I have repeatedly stated the benefits that I got and still have from playing rated. In the half a dozen other casinos, both chains and single ones, I will still occasionally play rated because the comped rooms, meals and free play are worth it for a low stakes player like me.

If one is playing low stakes and short trips, it is essential to have the comps. You got on this thread with nothing to contribute.

Come on. You started a thread about how you lost a chain due to rated play and now you’re still defending your choice to play rated.

Do it differently. Play a break even game at a non-chain casino of your choice for comps and play unrated everywhere else.

I lost a chain does NOT mean I made a mistake. I only meant I cannot play rated at THAT casino. I can go to the very same casino and play anonymously the next time. In the mean time, I can stay in comped rooms at other casino chains in that city, still use Players card when I need to.

Its what I did in my recent visit to that city. After the back off, I went to other casinos of the same chain, played anonymously. I played rated and unrated all over the city.

When I said I lost a chain, I meant that I could no longer use their Players Card to diffuse scrutiny any more, likely will no longer get comps from that chain. It did not mean anything else.

Probably but I got to keep the comps coming if I wanted to take 2-3 night visits to Las Vegas. I am in my 6+ years so losing one chain (playing with a card) is not so bad. As I have said, over time I have learned to use Players cards judiciously.

What bothers me me is the absolutes, the you should never do certain moves. Never use a Players Card, always stand on 16 against a 10, never split 10’s and on and on. These things vary with which casino you are at, what time of day, casino conditions, heat, how often you play (or never again), etc.

I sometimes use a card when there are only 1-2 tables only, pit has come over to watch the table, etc. I use a card, the pit guy goes over to socialize with other pit folks or flirt with the roulette guy instead of standing around or constantly walking over to check. Sometimes, down a bit, I color up and book a loss. Sometimes, I start anonymously, if the session is going bad, I “find” the card, book a loss and go home.

Its working so there is no need to quit entirely. I just received a $40/free play and a “buffet” (plus 3 nights at casino rate of $99) today. I have comped rooms at other places but the $40 free play and the free buffet will be used on my next trip next month.

I'm in my 15+ year of playing and I've never lost a chain. I make my trips cost-effective by betting enough and playing long enough to justify the expense of the trip.

I admire you and those who play higher stakes than me. I don’t like the stress I get from the variance. On my most recent 3 night trip to Las Vegas, I had $10k in a belt, another $2k in my wallet. I never touched the $10k, played 6 deck, $10 min. And $25 DD games, my max bet never exceeded $125, played about 20 hours, I ended up winning $1300, expenses of $600, profit of $700 and I was satisfied. Without the comped nights and several comped meals, I would have ended up with just $250 profits.

As I stated, for my temperament, for my stakes, my style works. I am in the minor leagues, you are in the majors.
