this link suggests alas Vegas still doing very well despite heavy resort and parking fees as well as 6/5 BJ, poorer rules and pen, competition from casinos everywhere, what gives?

You have to take into consideration the fact that more and more people are going to Vegas to see Celebrities Residencies such as Penn And Teller, David Copperfield, Britney Spears, Celine Dion, etc or are trying to elope. rather than plain Gambling. In 1989 most people went for the gambling. Cut to 2019 and more and more Casinos are opening up in many parts of US. Take away the Celebrity Residencies and the Chapels and Vegas would start to look like a lackluster place.

“the Strip continued to see strong slot play, with a 5.2 percent increase in volume and a 1.6 percent increase in win,”

So they’re loosening slots and making more money on them, even as they’re doing 6:5 BJ, paid parking, triple zero roulette, etc. Where’s the logic?

BJ Newbie summarizes the transformation of Vegas over time. Remember it did start as a gambling town, but as he points out, it has grown to so much more since then. You can spend weeks in Vegas as a tourist doing a multitude of things without gambling that was not possible in years past.

My curiosity is how increasingly bad rules across table games and the push for more slots will affect actual gambling tourism. Even the most casual of gamblers will notice the new 000 on roulette tables and smaller things like 12 paying 2-1 on the field for craps

Gambling revenue appears to be up too. ““This was the result of strong non-baccarat game and table play which benefited from increased volumes and significant increases to hold percentages,” Lawton said. “For the month, (blackjack) was up 29.2 percent, craps was up 67.3 percent, roulette was up 43.3 percent and sports were up 111 percent.”

Reading this thread is making me nervous as a new AP playing only in Vegas due to convenience. Curious what the future holds.
