This is a BJ forum, but this thread is about the hazards of winter in the upper Midwest regardless if on a BJ trip or not. Now that you know please just ignore this thread, but we know you won't.

Cars off the road everywhere. I have no idea how I made to Traverse as I could barely tell if I was on the road. All that way to get barred in one shoe the next morning (first time I ever got the Trespass Act). Luckily it was the hottest shoe of all time (no kidding) and it made up the for 150 hours I pounded that place and lost a few months before.
Yesterday I saw on the weather channel that the Leelanau Peninsula got 30 inches of snow. For being so early in the winter that is a lot, and they aren't even in the U.P., but they are by Lake Michigan.

If this lady at 89 years old can still shovel 30 inches of snow, then I have a good 20 years of snow shoveling left.

First Wipe Out of This Winter
Yesterday afternoon, my wife took the dog out for a walk. I just happened to look out the window as she was going down the slight slope of our path. To my surprise, there she was laying on the ground. First wipe out of this winter. I just missed seeing it happen, but did watch her get up. She wasn't hurt at all, but I still bitched at her for falling on a path that wasn't slippery.

I told her a couple days before to not bother with her YakTraxs as it wasn't slippery. I guess she really needs those YakTraxs. The day before I went down the same path with the garbage with just my shoes and had no trouble at all. At times the path can get slippery, but with the fresh snow it wasn't. So now it is back to the YakTraxs for her.

Maybe she loves you too much to suggest moving south....

    MWP-

You might find this video interesting. It's 4 minutes long, from a popular YouTuber named Tom Scott. He has a lot of good, scientific, and entertaining videos. This one is about a lab that actually rates how well different boots are in slippery environments. When I saw your post I immediately thought of this video.
