Car a Road trips - expense calculations..

I was just driving back from an overnight trip and wondered about how to assess success. I had left for a 2 night trip to a destination about 220 miles from home (440 miles RT) with plans to play at 3 casinos. I got there about 3 p.m., took a nap in my comped room, went out to play around 7:00 p.m.

To make a long story short, I played about 2 hours at 2 different casinos with a dinner ($15) in between, won about $600, decided to return and sleep for the night. The idea was to play all day the next day (today) but I did not sleep well. Left hotel to play at about 9:00 a.m., but on impulse, decided to just return home.

win is $600. Expenses, gas $45, meal expenses ($50).

Now, is there a way to calculate car depreciation cost. Should I use $0.10 per mile or higher?

Given that I spent 7 hours drive time, 4 hours table time, 2 days (left Thursday morning, returned Friday at 1:00 p.m.) or actually 28 hours of my time to win $600, how do you calculate what the trip amounts to?

I am thinking that $600 win minus $95 in expenses or $505 should be divided by 11 hours (7 hours driving, 4 hours playing) but not sure. Comments?

Zee, when you have a regular job you don't consider driving to work as part of your workday. I know folks who drive over an hour to work each day, but when you ask them how much they make per hour they don't take commuting time into consideration.

But when my job required me to fly, they paid my ticket or mileage (30 cents a mile then) and per diem for meals, tips etc.

How can you not take into account all your expenses and time, including travel time? As much as I can understand lately, you say that your income only covers monthly household expenses. And you use BJ as basically a job for extra income.
If you are looking to maximize your time and income, I mean maybe you need to be honest and see if a local part-time job would be better for you.

First, when a person works a regular job, his weekly pay is for 40 hours at the job. His hourly pay is counted according to hours spent at job, not adding the half hour each way to work, not adding his lunch break, etc. Similarly, when I do local casinos, I don’t count other than typical table hours.

Second, in the case of trips, I am looking at me being the employer, sending ZeeBabar to work at a different location. So when he returns, He gives me his money that he won and then I pay his travel expenses (mileage or RT ticket), his hotel cost and per dime (for meals). The remaining is my income.

Third, I never said BJ is a job for extra income. BJ is something I do, first because I enjoy it (I enjoy the travel as well) and the money is a bonus. I have not found a local part time job I could do when I want to and that I find interesting. The local strip club would not give me the job of cleaning the dressing rooms.

Have you applied for the bouncer position?

Regarding travel, as the "part-time recreational player" you always call yourself, the travel time is really irrelevant as you're retired and you're not giving up other income for time away from home. If you want to get more EV for your overall trip time, play longer and don't decide to cut the trip short for ploppyish reasons such as locking in a win, lost two sessions in a row, just don't feel like playing another day, etc.

I agree with most of what you say. However, playing “recreationally” means playing when you want to and when you don’t feel like it, you quit and go home.

Too old for the bouncer position and I don’t like doing steroids..

Not for an introvert. I shy away from attention except on forums.

I’m pretty conservative. Prefer missionary and doggie. Curious, what is the DJ position?

In NY, the DJs are tipped by the dancers. In more ways than one if they want their favorite songs played.
