The problem is banks don't like a lot of cash transactions. Many APs have been backed off by their bank, especially Chase.

If you frequent a venue, get a safe deposit box to keep cash or a chip inventory. I've used hotel room safes for years and never had a problem, despite their potential problems. I suppose you could set up a nanny cam in your hotel room, in case there is an issue.

Not trying to be belligerent, but how does a nanny-cam get your stolen items back? Sure, you might be able to say "The maid entered my room at X:XX PM and took my stuff!". Not sure you'll actually recover it at that point though, might be better than nothing. If you do this, I would suggest setting up some sort of remote alarm that can send you a SMS. This can be accomplished for around $50 with a Raspberry Pi and a hall effect sensor or 2 beam-break sensors. (Credit: A talk at ShmooCon 2019, GitHub link here: https://github.com/4F4D414841/tripwireless ) You'll get a real-time notification that your safe was opened and react accordingly. This still has the downside of not actually preventing the theft, just more proof it happened.

Also, the hotels in Las Vegas really, really, REALLY do not like you recording in your room. Some of us learned this the hard way at DefCon this year. AKA- Kicked out of your room.

You have a video to show hotel security and/or police of someone in your safe. You SMS method is all well and good, however, unless your down the hall at the ice machine, there's no way you'll be able to get back to your room in time.

Do me a favor and drop me an email at my user name at gmail. I have something I'd like to ask you off the forum.

Right, I was getting at that if the housekeeping staff who find your stash decide to steal it, I'm assuming that they will not stick around. Then again, I tend to give criminals too much credit and assume they are smart. But you are right, getting a SMS won't immediately stop the theft. It might tempt you to GTFO of where you are though and get to the hotel before the worker gets off shift, perhaps. Again, I still don't recommend keeping anything super valuable in the safe. Not sure what the best option is if you don't want to use an ATM, but I like the idea someone posted about a safety deposit box. A safety deposit box at a local branch isn't the worst idea, except bank hours kinda suck.

    Also, email has been sent.

Since I learned my lesson about a year ago. No more housekeeping either. No reason for it.

As an FYI, at Caesars properties, if you deny housekeeping for more than 2 days, they will do a security sweep of your room. This is (supposed) to be a cursory glance to make sure you aren't dead/stashing guns, and isn't supposed to include looking through drawers. And we all know hotel security staff will never overstep their bounds.

I also usually turn down housekeeping for short stays, more for environmental reasons though.

Is there no opportunity to rent a safe box at a bank which you can access at any time with some sort of key or code also when the bank is closed? I think there is something like that for mail boxes at post offices, at least in Europe, but have never used anyone.

Even if the bank safe is only accessible daytime and on working days, it might reduce the problem of keeping your bankroll. E.g. if one has a 10000 trip bankroll, he could on Friday keep a weekend bankroll, maybe 2000, in a money belt and store the remaining 8000 at the bank till Monday.

Zee, sorry to use you as the demo. An effective demonstration of the helpful - unhelpful system - my comments attracting a score of 0 for 4.

Now, everyone think about the good stuff - seldom yielding much. System: is silly and misused.

What was the suggestion or reason NOT to use a casino safe deposit box? I have used both the room safe and hotel safe deposit box in the past for that amount+ before. It's not like you are cashing in chips you won and are worried about your win being recorded. They are also open 24 hours. No one seems to care what you have or view in the box. Always around the cashier's cage. Never charged for it and you don't have to worry about going to a bank off site.

I would assume the concern is giving ID.
