My entire bankroll is about $3000 but it’s replenishable over time. As scared of that $25 minimum as I am, I think that this double deck game could be a good opportunity for me. Do you have any opinions on the use of TKO for DD (as opposed to other counting systems)? I’ll let you free after this one.
Two things to note. DD $25 min, games can be quite disconcerting at first. The pit observes you more, there is an initial tendency to underbet when you go from red chip to green chip and it’s difficult to hide your counting. If you straight put out a minimum $25 chip at start (in red chip play, it’s easier to put 1 or 2 or 3 to begin shoe), up it by TC, it’s a giveaway.

I do prefer DD and unlike Las Vegas (where it might be a counter trap), there are many places where it isn’t. Also, the same $25 min, DD table is offered at $10 or $15 at slower times.

You can't PM unless you're a subscriber. Email me at [email protected]. I have a couple other things I wanted to mention anyway.

Be sure you add the only trusty people. A casino near me used to had very good DD similar to one you described. At that time I was in similar situation of yours now. One weekend I saw a swamp out of town players, they played 2 spots with blacks and up to table max. That last couple days and casino shut down that game. Now it is 6/5 with 50?% cut. Or this poster set up a trap to lure AP in?

I actually thought about that, thank you for the warning.

I’m not sure I want to relinquish the location of this place just yet. If you still want to let me know the couple of things, I’d be happy to email.

I use Color Coded Knockout in 6 deck shoes and am happy with it, but I’ve heard that that simple of a count won’t be sufficient for DD. I’d prefer not to switch counts but if I need to to play double deck, it may be worth it. What would you guys recommend in this regard? Lastly, Dravot’s “The Color of Blackjack” has me max betting at a true 4, while I’ve read elsewhere that I should be max betting at a true 2. Any wisdom is welcome.
this is dumb. I, and a majority of others do fine playing DD with Hi-LO.

What is dumb? Also, what is your opinion on Dravot having you max bet at a true 4 rather than a true 2?

KO in general (not only Dravot's Color version) says put your max bet out at TC = 4, which is equal to the "pivot point" RC = 4, provided that your IRC is e.g. -20 for 6 decks and -4 for 2 decks.

For Dravot, TC = 4 ("hot line") is equal to RC = 4 * DecksPlayed since he assumes IRC = 0. So this is normal, not unusual. I think max-betting at TC = 2 is overbetting and increasing RoR, since your edge at TC = 2 is only about 0.5 percent in comparison to 1.5 percent at TC = 4.

I’ve seen in several places now that I should be betting max at a true 2, is this an anomaly or a normality for DD?

I'm no expert at DD or balanced counts. Hi-Low e.g. has an index of TC 3 for insurance for 6 decks, so it is clear that max bet should not happen at TC 2 but at TC 4 or s.th. I think for DD the insurance index is somewhat lower than 3, but you must ask the experts.

Update: not 2.8 as I expected, but only 2.4, according to

When you go for max bet depends upon your spread, how often a TC appears, your BR expectations.
