Thread: How dumb can dealers be?

My favorite dealer error: this dealer was barely able to add 2-3 cards’ total but the store put her on the floor anyway. She especially had a hard time when your hand contained an A. I had 8-3 and doubled, catching an ace. Dealer drew to 20. When she got to my hand, she didn’t seem to know whether to pay me or take my money. I half-jokingly said “21!” And sure enough she paid me.

Funny, I haven’t seen her at that store since.

So to answer OP: as dumb as the store will allow.

As far as incorporating this into sims: this would be very useful. With a dealer like mine, I could turn down rounds per hour (she was excruciatingly slow) but add some EV from mistakes and see where I end up.

I once had an amazing back off. We get to the joint and i buy in for 2k. I play very few hands and get the tap. I give my chips to the Dealer to color up. I have 24 black chips. She counts out 24, says 24, then starts to give me 4 orange and 4 black (i think she thought the orange were purple) the pit boss confirms 2400 even though it's 4400 lol. I am them escorted to the cage, paid $4400, and told to never come back. OK SEE YA!

I get couple back offs but told "you can play any game but no bj" I still got comp and other promotions. May be because I am light greener.

That's more common, but some places are nasty. I had one place 86 me first time and tell me in no uncertain terms they'd call the police and have me arrested for trespassing if I returned.

I know one AP who once had a backoff where they said he's welcome to play BJ, but no carny games. :-)

I once busted on a sizable bet and after the dealer took my cards and bet I immediately placed another bet on the table while he finished the hands with the rest of the table, as I always do. He busted and paid me. I didn't even have any cards in front of me. Thaaaaaank you.

I usually make a point of getting my next bet down right after bust, surrender, or BJ for that exact reason.

When one of the First Nations stores opened in my area about 25 years ago, I would camp there for 20 hours a week and make a very nice hourly on only 1-3 spread. There were so many dealer errors it was incredible. I didn't want to spread more and lose out on the gravy, but in hindsight I probably should have, since the couple of pit critters who actually knew what they were doing were so busy looking for dealer errors that they didn't have time to look for AP play.
