I haven't tried counting live yet. I do what to try this once I become a little more comfortable just to get some real world experience I will be betting table min when I do try it out. My question is, do I provide them with my player card when I'm just trying to practice counting? What is best practice, when you are counting, for providing them with your player card?

I have a hard and fast rule that I do not touch player’s cards because they can track your progress with it and tell if you are a winning player in the long run. There are benefits to both having one and not having one but my advice would be to use it as a fuel for a bonfire.

You dont need a shoe.. plus it takes longer to deal from a shoe rather than just holding a deck's worth of cards at a time and just dealing

Well I think there must be reasons for the casinos using shoes for multiple decks, e.g. increased dealing speed and comfort. Plus the risk of 312 or 416 cards spilling all over the table or falling down to the ground. I have experienced all this and strongly second the use of dealing shoes in addition to software and hand-held dealing to one's self (1 or 2 decks). Yes, the setup of a shoe takes longer, but afterwards I can much better concentrate on fast dealing, counting, settling the hands and handling chips, compared to dealing from my hand and exchanging piles in addition to all that.
