Optimal place to live for Counting?

Is there any optimal region in the United States that would be the best place to live in terms of access to casinos and reduced travel expenses? I live in the Mid-West with access to a decent number of metropolitan areas less than 5 hours away. Wouldn't this be more beneficial living in the center of the country rather than living in a state like Washington? Or does it not make a huge significant difference in the long run?

Richard Munchkin on gambling with an edge frequently says how terrible Vegas is and the mid-west has some of the best games.

Indeed. I was gambling with friends a month or so back and and we got a little over 5 decks penetration on a 6 deck shoe, with S17, DAS, RSA

I agree, especially for red chippers.

There really is no best place. Suppose you move near the best game you've ever seen. A month or two goes by and you're backed off. Now what? Move again?
Either move within range of several population centers with a bunch of casinos and/or move somewhere where there's a major airport nearby. That's one thing (the only thing) good about Vegas - you can fly anywhere from there for cheap (except the U.P., apparently)

Las Vegas is still the best. I write this from my comped room in Las Vegas and I am from the Midwest. There are wonderful DD and 6 deck games all over the city if you are a low stakes player. Moreover, there are things to do and see in between dropping into a casino. Taking trips elsewhere is never as much fun.

You just have to remember that the Strip is not where you play much. It’s no longer like the old days on the strip where you can walk from one casino to another cause many strip casinos don’t have good games. However, if you have a car, you could visit 5 different casinos on 5 different days of the week and never visit one twice. Where else can you do that?

As has been stated many times, Vegas is about quantity, not quality. The attraction for me, back in the old days, is exactly what is gone from the Strip - the ability to hit and run casino after casino, just walking in and out. I used park my car in the outdoor lot at Trop (no longer an available, open lot), and just spend all day walking from casino to casino.

I’d say Las Vegas is still the optimal place, but keep in mind that you’re under intense scrutiny if your max bet is between $150 and $1,900. If that’s where your bankroll is at, frequently hop on an airplane at McCarran and see the country.

Ah, I remember it well. Hop on this baby in the evening and be in downtown Chicago at Union Station at 7:00 a.m. Sleeper cars were great with your own toilet and your seat would fold down into a bed. No security checks.
