    Counting Cards in Connecticut

    Hi all,
I live in CT with access to 3 casinos within driving distance (MGM Springfield, Mohegan, Foxwoods). Does it make sense to learn card counting if there are only 3 available casinos? If I get backed off of one would that end any chance of profiting off Blackjack?

Also, I’m seeing a wide range of EV that is attainable ($10-$400) hourly. Does this simply depend on bankroll and betting size assuming perfect basic strategy and counting? I’m looking to learn as a part time hobby around 8-10 hours of play per week if it is profitable.

    Thanks!

From what I've learned to achieve a good hourly win rate in a 6D shoe game you have to spread real wide which will also add a lot of volatility to your bankroll and shorten your longevity with playing at the same places. You have to run sims to calculate your hourly rate and RoR. I'm going to lean towards a $400 hourly win rate isn't realistic. Most people here seem to play the DD games which seem to have better profit potential with a smaller spread, but I'd stay away from those
games until well prepared and bankrolled because I do know those are the games that heavily watched.

There are no DD games in/near CT.

Yes, it can be profitable but you’ll need a big bank to make any real money and learn how to back count. East coast games are generally shit but still beatable.

I didn't know this. I just know from my own study and reading what you guys post the DD games seems to be where it's at, depending on game obviously. That's why threw it out there.
I live by a great game I would love to play, seems to be very generous rules at a small older casino. Weirdest min max I ever saw. Min $50 Max $1000.

As a rule of thumb (with a rare exception) the east coast is all 6 and 8 deck games.

Thanks! How big of a bank is normal for a beginner card counter? I would be keeping my full time job just doing it on weekends and some evenings.

It looks like I have to read more about DD (doubledeck) games. Are these typically offered in Vegas only?

Does that mean most profitable card counters live in the Vegas area?

Nah, I don't live near Vegas and there's some near me. I'm just a beginner myself, but do have a few hundred hours of serious training and maybe 70 or so hours of live play booked. It's a very very difficult game when looking deep into it. Get yourself some training software such as Casino Verite and one of the sim programs and start training a couple hours a day while trying to save a BR. Scour old threads in this forum. That's pretty much what I do. I don't really play a winning game because my spread to small. I just trade variance with the house, but I'm just wanting to get as much live experience as possible before decide to invest serious money in myself and make a run.

DD is more common in the western US. However, it is watched much more closely and is virtually impossible to camouflage your spread to the the rapid swings in count from hand to hand.

For BR requirements, suggest you buy Norm's CVCX software. You can plug all the numbers in (game info, spread, etc.) and it will give you risk of ruin, EV, etc.

Vegas is probably the worst place in the country for card counters to play, especially on the Strip, due to poor games (most are 6:5 now unless you get into high limit) and heat.

Someone should set up a go fund me to raise money to post billboards all over Vegas. "Don't be a sucker and play 6:5 blackjack". Greedy assholes. I have a casino near me that has 6:5 and 3:2 with same rules and tables next to each other, with practically same mins. It freaking hilarious, I'll see the 6:5 packed with smiling faces and the 3:2 table practically empty. So annoying, no wonder casinos think they can get away with this.

I will politely disagree with you on this one. For most established players shoe games are where it's at.

That above min/max house requirement seems pretty normal for the green level player games, at a smaller casino.

I agree with Bosox. Being new here, you don't know who you should believe and who you shouldn't. That will come with time. Here's a hint - don't take advice from any forum member whose handle starts with the last letter of the alphabet.
