Travelling with large amounts of cash

    Hi guys,

Does anyone have any advice regarding travelling with large amounts of cash, (Over $1000, not considered large by card counting standards, but definitely outside of the average for most travelers) specifically through airports on a domestic flight? (US, sorry Freightman ) Is there anything to worry about regarding TSA? I know there isn't a legal limit for domestic flights, just wondering if you guys had any experience with it.

I'm going to Las Vegas for DefCon, and using credit cards is a bad idea that week, so our group is just bringing cash for everything for the week. (Every year, the hotel credit card terminals/ATMs get hacked, the wifi gets hacked, last year the slot machines at the Linq were glitching out for a while across the whole casino floor)

    Thanks!

I go to Las Vegas 6+ times a year, always carry between $5-10,000 and never had a problem.

You should never have a problem with TSA carrying any amount of cash. The amount you carry is none of their business, though they can inspect the cash for hidden contraband. Ask for a private screening as you don’t want people to see large amounts of cash that you are carrying.

Currency declarations are not required for intra USA travel, however, declarations to US customs prior to leaving the USA when carrying 10k USD is required. Further, currency declarations when entering Canada are required when entering carrying 10k CAD. The reverse is also true.

You should always check currency regulations for whatever country you are travelling to or from.

If you have TSA precheck, just keep the cash in your pockets. The metal detector will not see it.
If you don't have TSA precheck, sign up for it.

I have TSA precheck. I also have a pacemaker and cannot go through the metal detector.

I have TSA precheck, (Best $85 and 3 days of waiting I've ever spent!) so I'll probably do that. Cash in pocket, wallet in the bin. Good idea.

Many credit cards give it for free too. I got it gratis a few years ago but after skipping so many long lines, I should have paid for it long ago.

I already got it before getting a credit card that offered it.

Also if you have a CAC you can use that number to get free precheck (If contractor, you must opt-in first).

Don't you have to get your finger prints taken in order to get TSA precheck? I just as soon be in one less data base.

I don't fly that often, but when I do I usually have about $6,000 to $9,000 on me. Never had any problems, but once time in Wendover I had a bank envelope in my shirt pocket full of cash (maybe $3,000 ) and forgot about removing it. The TSA agent asked about it and then wanted to see it. I opened the envelope and showed it to him, but didn't give it to him. I just flipped my thumb over the money and he was satisfied.

Haha you act so tough, and you have pacemaker? Yeah I think I have you pegged pretty well too lol.
I use a money belt...holds more cash than you think, and I never expose it to anyone.

Interestingly enough, that was supposed to be a hidden message, which I will remove, that aside, your commenting on that in the nabpnner that you have, puts you in the category of douchebag.
