Do You Ever Take a Different Route on a Casino Trip

I do have my favorite routes to casinos and most of them are pretty direct. I sometimes will go out of my way to avoid road construction, but in general I like the off the beaten path.

I'm looking at making a casino trip in the near future and have been considering a route I never taken before. However, I've been on parts of the route many times. All the roads on the route are paved, but this route is actually 17 miles longer than the most desirable route which is the route I usually take. Does anyone think 17 miles is to far off course to be justified. Parts of this route I don't think I ever been on before but can't remember for sure. I'm kind of concerned that parts of this route may not have cell service.

YOU are asking US if 17 miles is too long for YOU? Do I have that right?

He only makes virtual trips, so these must be virtual miles

Seriously though, I like to combine casino trips with some sightseeing if it's a new area for me or if there are points of interest I haven't seen. For example, on a recent Ohio trip, going from Columbus to Cinci, I detoured through Dayton to stop at the Air Force Museum. Very worthwhile stop.

Regarding cell phone service, what's the big deal if you lose service for a while? You don't seem the type to be posting pics to Instagram or Facebook every 5 minutes of the day. I find it nice to be "disconnected" at times.

Take the scenic route always, if time permits. I have sometimes wished I took the time to see more when planning my trips. Plus, 17 miles out of the way? That's a no brainer....

Yeah, I don't like seeing any new towns. I try to avoid them. But I do like seeing rivers and waterfalls and just wild country. On my trips to western WI I always liked to get off US-2 and get on scenic WI-77. Believe it or not my preferred route to get on WI-77 from US-2 is actually a 5 mile long dirt road starting at Kimball, WI. This avoids the congestion around Hurley and Montreal WI. However, over the years I took many different routes including thru Hurley WI.

Here is a picture of the dirt road I take from Kimball, WI to WI-77

I might also stop and check out the Bad River and leave a pee under the bridge.

WI-77 is a good road, but hardly any towns or car traffic. There is a speed trap in Mellen, WI and there are Elk warning signs for about ten miles. The signs are always flashing when I go thru there, but have yet to see an Elk. No cops, but forest rangers with GPS trying to locate the Elk.

This leads to asking a non BJ trip to Colorado. I have two friends visiting the USA who want me to show them around Colorado in just 2-3 days. That is, they land at Denver on a Tuesday morning at 9:00 a.m. and leave from Denver on Friday morning at 6:00 a.m. later this month. No BJ. They are interested in just scenic sites. I have Pike’s Peak, Rocky Mtn National park, Trail Ridge Road, Peak to Peak Highway, Mt. Evans, Garden of the Gods, etc. They are too old to hike.

dont really know a route. Anyone familiar with Colorado, what to add or eliminate etc? What is possible in such short time. Where to stay, etc.

There is at least a 5 mile stretch from where US-51 leaves US-2 and goes thru the town of Hurley and out thru Montreal. This highway goes thru downtown and a residential section with about 30 mph speed limit the entire way. I didn't like it. Of course, traffic doesn't back up, but I prefer the wild country.

I know I've been inside the fish. Many, many years ago. I think I was with my parents. Casino is just down the road a few miles.

What's with all this fascination with Hurley, WI. Yes, it has a rich history. I remember driving through the town many years ago with my Dad, my eyes wide open gazing at all the bars and listening to his stories. Some folks consider it to have the most strip clubs per capita in the USA. The latest Census put the population at 1524 and the town has 8 strip clubs. That makes it one strip club for every 190 residents. Beats out Portland, Oregon which likes to claim the title. Oh yeah, WI-77 starts on Silver St in Hurley, WI.

That's cool. You took the 1524 and put it over the 8, like this? 1524/8?
