I tip more often than one would imagine.

    I buy in for $200 at a time. I get a short
stack of $1 chips and, as long as I am in
the black, I get the dealer's attention.
I bet light green with a polite spread.
In retrospect, my tokes are perhaps
3% to 6% of my net wins.
Tokes keep the floor persons and
dealers happy, and help to dissuade
    them from phoning up surveillance!

I've read that before and again just now; it's great. I mostly love the alliteration.

Tokes do not guarantee longevity; it just enhances it.
Most of the dealers that I see certainly improve the
depth of penetration when I am playing.

Interesting comment. I recently played against a very nice older lady dealer. House protocol in hi limit is 4/6 (heads up versus main floor with great pen, full tables and agonizing slow play).

For whatever reason, I was unusually obvious about her placement of the cut card. She said as much as she removed the not yet fully inserted cut card, reinserting to 4.5/6, really the best she could do. Being pleasant with frequent, but very low dollar toke amounts goes a long way.

The one topic I always seem to waffle about, is dealer tipping. The end result is currently a tipping style that does the above when up, not doing so when down, and starting up again on the March to even. I tip well at restaurants, waitresses at the casino. Like it or not, dealers are usually paid min wage, tips being a part of the package. They put up with all types of shit and abuse, smoke where allowed, etc.

I don’t suggest tipping as part of a red chipper arsenal, but where the practice is supported by EV - simply a cost (and a minor one at that) of doing business. Really not much difference than the “house vig” I give (and enjoy doing so) to the wife. I give her 10% of my win, capped at 1k and nothing when I lose. This still allows the other extras as well as reinvestment to bankroll(though growth is slower). It also supports her secret stash that I don’t know about, from which she does all kinds if extras for the kids and grandkids. Supports my goals indirectly, without being obvious.

It’s a wonderful life when planned and executed properly, and I’m thankful for all my blessings.

Should have noted that I reduce net win by trip expenses before allocation of the house vig.
