    Push 22

I spent this past weekend in Windsor at the Caesars Casino. Got in early Saturday morning and only a few blackjack tables were open. One of the games was "push 22." Rules are very similar to regular blackjack. Obviously the dealer pushes when he/she has 22. But, on the flip side all splits are free. When you split the casino matches your bet so if you lose, you'd only lose your original bet. If you win you would get the same money as if you would have traditionally split. Also, all doubles on hard 9, 10, and 11 are free (same as split). I only played maybe a couple hundred hands of this game and wondered everyone's thoughts. I felt like it took some strategy out of the game because you would double everything no matter the dealers up-card. But, I made some money and even enjoyed playing- Thoughts?

You were lucky. I’ll look it up later, but push 22 adds something like 10% to dealer edge, which is a; enormous house edge to overcome. Also, the 9,10,11 doubles only, work against you.

I’m sure there is a strategy for this game, which you had better know before you screw around with this game.

Edi5 to add, missed the free double 9,10,11 comment. Still dangerous shit.

    Spencerb533,

    Welcome to Blackjack the Forum!

The game you described is called Free Bet Blackjack. The Wizard of Odds has analyzed it, see:

    https://wizardofodds.com/games/free-bet-blackjack/

Notice that Basic Strategy changes depending on whether the hand is "real money" or "free money".

    Hope this helps!

Hmm. Seems like you're about 9% off, according to Mike S.

Was quoting specifically the effect of 22 pushing, which I just looked up, and is 6.91%. A touch over 1% after all the shoot8ng is done, assuming if course, that the game is played perfectly.

With perfect play and very favorable rules, (3:2, Double after split, etc.) which it was, would it be better than playing decent rules on a regular game? That was my question which I didn’t describe very clearly.

Absolutely not. Decent rules with surrender at blackjack - assume .5% house edge versus, I think 1.09% edge at freebet. F you’re fairly new to this, stick to blackjack and learn its nuances first. Further, if you’re in an area that offers Spanish 21, that would be your second choice of endeavour.

Yes I have played Spanish, never really gotten into it. I am not claiming to be an expert in any of this. That’s why I posted in this forum. Looking for more input for my next session.

Again, if your experience level is minimal, stick to blackjack, learn it, before branching out.

Any new variation of Blackjack will never come out for the benefits of players.

"Push22" is a deadly trap for the unwary innumerate patrons.
Great rules do not approach negating the dealer's advantage.

I once came across an instance of this game for which the dealer kept forgetting that 22 was a push for him. Very nice!
