    Risk/return question

    Hi everyone,

Is the following setup a viable one? Thanks!

10:1 spread, 1% RoR, decent-to-good rules, 1000 units available (and not "replenishable") to achieve EV = +0.8 units/hour

It is so easy to earn $8/hour. Do we really mean your goal is only $8/hour?

He said units, not dollars. His unit might be $50.

What you're suggesting isn't possible. You can't have a 10:1 spread, 1,000 units, and a ROR of only 1%. You can't stipulate all three variables at once. You can only stipulate two out of three. So, you either accept more ROR for your other two parameters, or a smaller spread, or you increase number of units to have a ROR as low as 1%. Take your pick.

Alright, I'll make the spread the free parameter. How wide can I go at 1% RoR w/1,000 units with 1, 2, or 3 hands being played and given the current climate, is 0.8 units per hour too much to expect? Thanks!

If his unit is $25, then his goal is to earn $20/hour, which is also too easy for a spread of $25 to $250.

His question should be "Can I achieve EV = +0.8%/hour?"

Number of units is irrelevant. It's the number of max bets that matter in one's bankroll.

He has a very marginal 100 max Bets based on a 1-10 spread.

Good information. I didn't think the older "100 times your big" rule worked given the current state of the art anyway, but I wanted to check. Appreciate everyone's help!

This is a better quick measure of variance I am thinking.
