Accessing money abroad/minimizing exchange rate losses

Hello all,

I will be taking a 1.5-2 year long trip around the world at the end of July. I have played internationally before, but my longest prior international AP trip has been about a month and a half. Due to the short nature of these prior trips, I simply carried and declared currency above 10 k USD. Because this trip will be very long, I would feel unsafe keeping a large amount of cash constantly on hand.

Can anyone recommend an international banking chain that I might be able to open in the US and access and deposit cash while abroad? I am unsure about the policies banks have with this. I know Vagabond on GWAE spoke a bit about traveling with money but I believe he mainly simply declared on arrival. And does anyone have experience wiring money to international casinos?

Furthermore, any ideas on the best methods for exchanging currency? Please let me know your thoughts either here or at [email protected]

Transferwise is a good service for converting money with minimal losses, and you can use the bank transfers to keep cash on hand minimal while travelling internationally.

A lot of credit cards (and some prepaid debit cards) offer no forex fees as well.
