Pit Boss couting down a shoe?

The Pit Boss was standing right next to me for a complete shoe. He was staring at the felt the whole time, and I wondered if he was trying to count down the 6D shoe. How would you react? Try to distract him, so he loses count?Take a long bathroom break? Leave?

Flat bet the shoe and then disappear for a while.

Or if the count goes negative, raise your bet. Make him question his assumptions.

I'm just a newbie, but it seems that, if he does not know you well, would it be a good time to throw him off? Raise your bet after a bunch of high cards come out, saying something about a run of high cards and/or blackjacks. Make a typical ploppy playing decision.... Raise you bet after a win, even if the count goes down...

Why wouldn't a PB stare at the felt now and again? Part of the job. But yeah, might leave. If the PB is standing over your shoulder, that's often not good.

I've done this with single deck. Pit boss came over and surreptitiously began counting. His reaction was priceless. His face contorted and he unconsciously crossed his arms. I left soon after. His face hadn't unscrewed.

What are we calling a pit boss here? Is this person a real PB or do you mean floor person? I have yet to see a PB count down a shoe. I have seen casinos "plant" counters in the pit. Mandalay Bay used to do this. Maybe they still do.

I've seen PBs thumb through the discards. Who knows if they can count or are just putting on a show to see if there's a reaction.

Thank you for all of the replies. It was the pit boss. The pit supervisors all go to him when they have a question. I actually don't think he knows how to count, but he watched the entire shoe be dealt. You don't need to stare at the felt continuously to keep the count. One of the pit supervisors asked me for my first name (I gave her a name that is not mine).

When I'm watched I straight up martingale or progressive bet. I know, I know, in the real world martingaling does not work. Things like table limits etc, come into play. But I make my bet the table minimum and go from there.

Do it for one shoe only, and leave. If you're up, yeah! Woot woot! Going home a winner! If you're down, this place sucks, can't win on a 20, blah blah blah. You'll be remembered as a ploppy, and a desirable target.

I saw a dual rate making marks on a paper. It had three columns, 2-6, 7-9, and 10 and A. He knew how to count, but couldn't so he used a paper.

Funniest one I experienced was a DD pitch game in S. Washington state.

Very fast dealer. Phone rang in the pit. Next, PB came over to the dealer and said, "deal face up and slow down. Surveillance can't keep up with the count." I had already been there an hour, so I played one more max bet cycle and left for across the street.

I had a dealer flinging cards at a full table at lightning speeds. I couldn't keep up, but pen was great. I almost missed a couple of hands because I couldn't get bets out fast enough. I "jokingly" said to slow down because I couldn't count cards that fast. He did.

A week later he sat down next to me at another casino in a neighboring state and smiled. During a shuffle he told me he counts too, then went on to berate his employer and talked about how he loves seeing APs run "gangbang trains" on tables.
