This joke would be ZERO percent funnier if it was changed from 17 to 16. In fact, it doesn’t work if the number is changed to 16. Why? Because there are times you hit on 16 in bj. There are no times you hit on 17. The point of the joke is to contrast two different things with the same number. 17 works, that is for joke purposes.

i thought the joke worked perfect as delivered. I found it very funny, as did other people. Who goes around with a manual in their back packet to see what state they’re in to see what age you can hit on. The rule of thumb is 17 and below is the safe way to go (meaning don’t hit on 17). Hey, I’m a poet, and I didn’t even know it.

And this stuff about what goes on in Costa Rica? What’s that about? Most of us don’t live in the third world.

Disagree. I can't wait until I'm dealt a 17 with one of my sons at the table. I can then say "Son, never hit on 17. Oh and by the way, that's good dating advice as well." I'm chuckling as I imagine it.

Yeah yeah, the age of consent here is 16, and the line is "under 16 will get you 20". BUT it's pretty poor taste for a grown man to hit on a 17 year old. So, it's still good advice.
