Probably not. I don't think most recreational players have won a million dollars in their winning sessions. Okay, I know I have put millions on the table in blackjack bets, but winning sessions are another thing. I went back and checked my winning sessions for the last 11 years and they total only $215,000 or an average of about $20,000 a year. Even my best year winning sessions only totaled $32,000 and that represents a total of a 129 sessions played both losing and winning. Of course this is at the red chip level, but even at green chip you might make a million, but millions is doubtful.

By the way, Kerry Packer was just a gambling ploppy who inherited his money. He would have been better off just investing it in the stock market.

Midwest Player, you're somewhat making the same point I’m making. I get that Kerry Parker is a ploppy. My point is Don Johnson is too, at least when he went on his three casino win spree. What made Don Johnson famous is having three big wins in about a six month time period in 2012 when he was playing like a ploppy, and taking advantage of loss rebates. By Don’s own admission, he had several losses during this time period, but he won’t revel how many or how big they were. Who knows, Don could have lost more than he won during this timeframe. Only Don knows the whole story.

After Don’s famous wins, he was welcome back so we know he wasn’t playing with an advantage. The main thing the casinos took away from Don was his loss rebates, which is why he probably moved into the second phase of his blackjack career, where he tried to play with an advantage with “his entourage”. One of his “advantage plays” he talks about in interviews is trying to distract dealers into misplays by having porn stars by his side. I hope this unique advantage play technique isn’t what got him elected into the Hall.

Here’s an interesting tidbit. After Tropicana got rid of their loss rebates for whales program, their profits went down. Tropicana made less in 2013 (with no loss rebates) than in 2011 and 2012 (when the loss rebate program was in full swing). Based on this data, you could make a case that the casinos went too far removing their loss rebate program. Btw, how do I know this? Because Tropicana is a public company so their financial records are public information. I looked it up.

When Zee asked me why I was obsessed with Don Johnson, I thought about it some more. I’m not so much obsessed with Don Johnson as I’m trying to understand why the BJ HOF members voted a person like Don Johson into their Hall. Don’s accomplishments were nothing more than having a couple big wins using loss rebates and getting an article written about himself.

If this is all it takes to get in the BJ HOF then I think Kerry Packer should be in there too. That was my point on bringing up Kerry Packer. Kerry had bigger wins than Don Johnson, and casinos feared him too, even though he was a ploppy.

About Blackjack: The Forum

BJTF is an advantage player site based on the principles of comity. That is, civil and considerate behavior for the mutual benefit of all involved. The goal of advantage play is the legal extraction of funds from gaming establishments by gaining a mathematic advantage and developing the skills required to use that advantage. To maximize our success, it is important to understand that we are all on the same side. Personal conflicts simply get in the way of our goals.
