    "Complete Hi-Low" vs. "Hi-Low" - Sanford Wong

What's the difference between the two? I see some index numbers a slightly different. Is one better for certain rules?

I think, but I could be wrong which I doubt, That they are risk averse indices. Also when there is no deviation where there is one in the "Complete HiLo" he's giving you the top 22 to get 95%, or so, of your E.V.

HI grassy, are you referring to these terms as they appear in Casino Verité?

Stanford Wong wrote several editions of his seminal work Professional Blackjack, and in the 1982 Edition which I have, he used a flooring method for determining his indices. In the 1994 Edition he switched to using truncated values for his index numbers. This most noticeably impacts the negative numbers.

In CVBJ, Norm gives you the ability to choose the style you like best, such as the Complete High-Low which is most similar to the 1982 style index numbers; while the strategy named smply High-Low models the 1994 publication.

Both strategies that you mentioned have nothing to do with risk-averse modifications, that's something that you have to add on your own.

    Yes, thank you.

Do you know any additions (side counts, etc) to the game that might be useful if I'm currently used to the I18, F4, 6D, DAS, RSA, LS game? If the bet spread is an art, and I've been using a 1-12 (1=1unit,2=2,3=4,2X6units @ 5) what would be an alternative with a similar ROR?

    Hi Grassyknoll63,* (like the inference)

--- Regarding side counts: I actually use an Ace side count for insurance, the top play of the I-18, and for a few other select plays. The Ace side count is sometimes dissed when people talk about Hi-Lo because it is already an Ace reckoned method, but I find adding an ASC useful and quite easy. (OK, it's only easy after a lot of practice). Mr. Wong in his book Professional Blackjack, 1981 edition says:*

"Keeping a count of aces in addition to your primary count (either the High-Low or Halves) will allow you to make better insurance decisions and better strategy decisions. A side count of aces, accurately used, will add-about 0.1 bets per hour to your expected-win rate."

Stanford Wong created entire tables of play indices for every different play incorporating the ASC, but later deleted these as being too complex for the average player in future editions of his book. But I still successfully use the ASC for a select few and especially insurance.

---Regarding your bet spread, it looks very reasonable to me. You can perfect it mathematically by simply buying the CVCX product from Norm which can gain you access to the CVCX-online too. It's simple to use and quickly gives you optimal bet spread ramps for any casino condition.*

    Cheers,
    Ole
