Poll: How Much Did You Make per Hour at Blackjack in 2018 Before Expenses

It's tally up time for the year 2018. How much did you make per hour playing blackjack in 2018 before any expenses.

Note: This poll does not reveal your handle.

Doesn't matter. This poll is for anyone one who played blackjack in 2018. It isn't just for folks who card count. Maybe you are hole carding or playing some other method. The very first year I played blackjack, I just used basic strategy and won probably something like 50 cents per hour.

I started keeping records, I think Nov 2007. Off the top of my head, my earnings were $2.07 per hour. I just might be interested enough to check when I get home.

Years ago when BJ21 was in its glory years, I always did a "Tally Up Time" post at the end of the year. It was not a poll because their software did not support polls back then. It was just a thread about how everyone did during the year. A lot of folks participated and actually would disclose the good, the bad, and the ugly during the year. Eventually participation dropped off and I quit doing the "Tally Up" post.

Now we have a participation rate of about 5% in this poll. I sure don't understand why more folks don't participate since your "handle" is not disclosed. Anyway, I'm kind of surprised so far by the results. Almost 70% say they have made more than $50 per hour playing blackjack. I really thought the majority of responses would be in the $10 to $30 range. I guess, I guessed wrong.

It would be nice if some folks would come forth and discuss how their year went. I believe Zee has done this. I have mentioned my results several times through out the year. KJ has been doing this for years on other forums, but I can't think of many others except in BJ21's glory years.

Yawns... How about a poll on how much money people make at "other" games vs blackjack. I am not a high stakes player by any means. My top bet is about 250. So, 2018 netted me a tidy little 5 figure sum without ever playing one hand of blackjack. And for the first time in many years. No back offs or being trespassed.

My bro in law plays black jack and I would say he's winning 5g a year. Nothing special but just for playing black jack? That's not bad.

I'm on an 852 hour break even streak counting cards. I'm 620 hours away from my last all time high at earnings from counting. In the 620 hours I'm down nearly 50k. I started counting in 2002 and after 5 or 6 years I didn't think it was possible for ME to have a 200 hour losing streak. I'm very selective about the games I play and even though I've been at this for nearly 20 years I still practice and test myself on CVBJ nearly everyday. My max bet is typically 2x600 although I will bet more than that in very positive counts (where the casino will tolerate that), so 50k isn't that big of a deal but the point is these losing streaks can go on for an extended period. I have two close friends that are struggling with CC as well. One is losing over his last 900 hours the other is at about 600 I think. Both of these guys are pretty well known and very competent. Had my CC career started out like it has over these last 600 hours there is no way I'd still be counting cards.

Many people I know no longer count cards because there are easier ways to make money in the casino. I do it because I like the mental exercise. I'm very fortunate to have been able to make a lot more money over the years playing other games or promotions. Counting is something I do when there isn't anything better and lately I've been doing a lot of counting.

I had a losing year for blackjack. I was doing pretty well averaging around 30$/hr until I hit some horrible variance near year's end.

Bubbles, thanks for sharing. It's always more difficult to share the bad and the ugly than the good. By the way, approx how many hours did you play in 2018 and what kind of betting and spread level was most of your play at?

Thanks to all who answered the poll. I wish a few more folks participated, and you still can if you haven't taken part in the poll.

I did a little comparison between this poll and the one I did for 2014. https://www.blackjacktheforum.com/sh...sults-for-2014

Anyway, the polls are a little different, but in 2014 about 20% of the respondents had a losing year. In this poll so far about 24% had losing years. I wonder if that is due to just poorer blackjack games being offered, but the sample is so small it is hard to make any conclusion.

In this year's poll I came in at the 45%-55% mark. In other words 55% of folks did better than me on an hourly basis. In the 2014 poll 62% reported better results than me. However, on an hourly basis this years results were over 4 times better than in 2014.
