    Index variations

    Hi, I am very new to blackjack AP, simply a student so far, but my drive and passion are very high. I eat, breathe, and sleep strategy. I have downloaded QFIT to my android and set the rules to DAS, H17 for the HI-LO system. My question is, why does a 13 v 2 have an index of 0 whereas il18 shows -1? Thank you for reading.

    The indices in QFIT software are from the books by the respective authors because that's what most people use. But, they aren't always the best indices. You can create a user strategy based on an included strategy and change the indices.

    That is the difference in a H17 vs S17 game. In a game where dealer stands on an A6, the index is 0.

    No, I don't think so. Wong's values are identical (both 0) in Pro BJ. Mine, on p, 213 of BJA3, is -1 for BOTH, as there is no second index next to the -1 for H17. The difference is, clearly, that the precise value lies between 0 and -1, and while Wong's values are truncated, mine are floored.

    Perfect index S17, 6 deck 13 vs 2= -1.1.
    H17= -1.5.

    When quoting any Index numbers, one must consider the source and the specific author's process at the time.
    As Don said,* both S17 and H17 are so close they are the same in Stanford Wong's book. But in the 1982 edition of his book, Mr. Wong uses the flooring method and calls both these indices "-1." Then for the more popular 1994 edition, Stanford switched to a truncated style, so he made them both "0."* I personally use the index for 13 vs. 2 at "-0.5".*
    Dig deeper, enjoy,*

    How did you get -0.5? I personally use the unique core of russian software and the method of complete sorting combinations for the final deck.

    With all due respect, there is a leap of faith trying to derive index numbers through strictly numerical means, using "representative decks." Norm has never believed in the process, and I believe simulation to be more accurate, when done correctly, of course.
