There is an optimal bet size for a given bankroll and a given % edge. Routinely betting above that amount will increase your risk of ruin. Routinely betting below that amount will reduce your bankroll growth rate.

If you are asking about making an exception every now and then just because you can then i would say knock yourself out but just realise it isnt correct or clever to do so.

I wouldn't 5x my max bat like you have mentioned but I've overbet my max bet going "all in" by maybe 25-50 percent when I know i'm leaving and I act pissed off because I'm losing.I've only done this in double deck games since the TC can skyrocket so quickly over a hand or two.

Your bankroll is the most important bit. What's your RoR betting 500 at +8? If it's low enough for your liking then do it. If it's too high, don't. You are not playing with winnings. It is your hard earned money and is no different than the bills you pulled from your pocket.

    A common ploppy misconception.

“I’m up $500, I’ll play wild and shot take - after all, it’s the casinos money”

Wrong. If the chips are in the tray, it’s the casinos money. If the chips are on my side of the table, it’s MY money.

I get what you guys mean. Might have been missguided by lack of BR knowledge on that one.
Wayne Gretzky once said that you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. Life’s too short for regrets.
