Philly Casino Sugarhouse Fined for Dealing Short Decks

not just short decks, all kinds of screwups with their shufflers

here's a very interesting quote from the story

"In some cases, dealers used decks of cards that contained too many cards; too few cards; or in one poker tournament, cards sorted in sequential order rather than randomly shuffled."

    sound familiar?

and by the way, the source, philly.com is the online version of the Philadelphia Inquirer which is a highly respected mainstream media outlet.

"The dealer dealt 16 poker hands before noticing the cards were suited and in sequential order."

Either these were the worst Poker players on the planet, or one or more figured it out and went with it.

If they had rebated the losses to the customers they would have avoided the $100K fine. I have had this happen at many casinos and all of them had rebated the losses. Unfortunately the time I got creamed they said the decks were fine. I still got a smaller rebate a few of the times they found a card missing. One casino stops all play with both decks until the cards are counted to avoid the fine. If they still never rebated losses to individuals they could identify they should be fined again.

The ordering special cards for SP21 is BS. They still take the 10's out every time they switch the cards. Usually spin is misleading but not a lie. Unless they ordered the cards and never use them, this is a lie. This casino has really gone downhill in the past year. They used to be one of the best at seeing to player needs. Apparently now they are just interested in profits and feel fine screwing players over. No wonder the other casinos in the area are getting busier with more big players. Sugarhouse used to draw almost all the big players.

I played there at the end of August and had a bad BJ session.

Is there any of me getting a rebate?

You have to be playing when they figure out the were dealing an illegal game due to using an illegitimate deck. Then they are required to give you a rebate. Not saying you will get one but they get a 6 figure fine if they don't give you one. If they are smart they will give you one. Unfortunately casinos aren't known for hiring smart people.

And of course this was the very first time they cheated.......which we all know is laughable. It's just the first time they got caught.

Please. There is a huge difference between cheating and incompetence. What they did could as well have aided players. There is no lack of evidence that casino managers and staff are incompetent. Incompetence can be an AP advantage.

Read the investigation resolution report attached to the article linked to in the OP. It gives the times very specifically when they had this issue.

    Norm,

That's true... I'd love to play Spanish21 with the 10's still in the deck, which is one of the errors noted in the article.
