Yeah really haha. How funny would it be if someone were to attempt card counting the very first time they ever sat down at a blackjack table!!

The progression usually goes something along these lines:

See blackjack in a casino when your out with friends.
    Sit down at blackjack table.
    Lose your money playing horrendously.
Learn a few strategy tips from people at the table.
Think you are now an expert so return with your arsenal of strategies and lose more money.
Eventually do some digging and find out about basic strategy.
Play basic strategy for a while with varying degrees of success or failure.
Eventually hear about something called card counting that can give you an edge over the casino.

Well at least that's how it was for me lol

Get your feet wet... you don't have to be an expert counter the first time you ever play!

If anything that will just amount to unnecessary pressure and nerves. Your first time you play blackjack should be fun and natural. Not a business trip!

Oh I was so nervous the first few times I went after practicing counting for months, I had to wear a hoodie to hide my shaking. Hasn't been too long since then.. but I dont get nervous at all anymore lol

Note that if you play a pitch game (where your first two cards are "pitched" to you face-down) then the dealer will NOT know your total, unless you show her your hole cards.

In my part of the world the dealers are required to announce the total of the players first two cards as well as the total every time an additional card is dealt to the player. If requested, they are also required to announce the value of their upcard which they would do anyway if it was an Ace(for insurance purposes). One of the reasons for this is so sight impaired people can play and enjoy the game.

Sounds very much like how I started except I didn't even know how to play the game the first time I sat down. By the way my first year playing blackjack was actually a winning year.

No I don't; I believe differently from you, who never met a thread he didn't want to hijack with 50, thousand-word posts. Don't speak for others; speak for yourself -- which you do often enough.

    Don
Lighten up Francis. I was joking. Nobody hijacked this thread. The OP asked follow up questions and people answered then. Your pet peeve drives you so much that you didn't notice that so your post was ironically funny in this thread's context. I just had some fun with it. I guess you can't take a joke. Don't you see the ironic humor in inserting your favorite pet peeve into a thread that was only the OP asking questions and others answering his follow up inquiries?

    Please, Don and Three..

You’re both valuable to this forum, don’t start any war here.
blackjack AP is already a niche, we should be just nice to eachother and bring the positive as often as possible. Let the ego-wars for Poker forums or any popular game.

If my ribbing Don about his pet peeve is bothering him I will stop. I do it occasionally. I think he has a sense of humor. I won't get upset about any response he makes. This response seemed a bit out of character for him so maybe I am bothering him. I was just trying to have fun.
