I prefer the passive aggressive approach. Start coughing followed by a dirty look. Smoking is the biggest negative of counting cards. Others in the thread say there's non smoking casinos; I have only seen a few casinos that had non smoking areas.....and blackjacks pay even money there. No thanks.

Many states in the East make smoking in businesses where others are illegal. The exception being smoke shops. Pa and NJ are the states that are still in the dark ages. Most other Eastern states are in the age of enlightenment where shared environments are protected from exposing people to a massive number of carcinogens by people that choose to be polluters.

I was wondering if someone would catch that straight line so I misspelled "meet" to make it more obvious. At least you didn't disappoint. Good one. LoL

I respect all people choices to smoke or do not. Honestly, I am not smoking person but where would be no problem for me if casino would have smoking and not smoking areas tables.

Seemingly, every other type of indoor venue has gone non-smoking. Why do the casinos allow it? The slot addicted fools would have to adapt, just like they do for restaurants, bars, planes, workplaces, but they would. They would have to go outside if they want to smoke.

I was hoping on getting in several hours of play tomorrow but with a bit of a cough, that isn't gonna happen. Nothing to egg on a cough like unwanted cigarette smoke drifting in one's face.

Because when they are outside smoking, they aren't playing the slots...

They can't play every second. They can't play when they have to go to the restroom, or when they go to eat. So instead of leaving at 8 pm, they leave at 8:15 or 8:30. It wouldn't make any difference in the time they are at the machines.

If you are speaking euphemistically, then I beg to differ :-(

What I think is missing in this discussion is the advantage to the player if you are a smoker. You can step back from the table and considerately light a cigarette, and backcount. If the deck turns positive, stub out your cig. and continue playing. iI the deck gets negative, smoke slowly. Non-smokers can also do this. Get a vape with just naturally flavoured water. You can be considerate and vape away from others, while back counting.

In venues that permit tobacco smoking, I used to carry an (empty) asthma inhaler
and cough and pretend to inhale the spray. It often sent players to other tables.

Another technique (works even if you are not a smoker and never intend to light up), is to put your cigarettes and lighter in front of the spot beside you, and an ashtray in front of the spot on the other side. May make non-smokers think twice before sitting down and ruining you heads up game, and even if someone does join they will not sit in the spots you have occupied with your smoking paraphernalia so you can go to multiple hands easily if desired, and it also keeps more than 1 or 2 people from joining you since you have occupied several spots.
