Luckily all the casinos in the UK are non-smoking. Shame the US is so far behind the curve

If I go somewhere that allows smoking, then I am prepared for someone to smoke. If I dont want to be around someone who smokes then I don't go to places that allow smoking. If I smoked and I saw someone waving there hands and coughing as I lit up I'd think of my mom, because she was a real "drama queen" And if they were to expect me to not smoke I'd think to myself that the casino I'm in is a smoking establishment and I'd wonder what the person didn't understand about that.

If someone asks me if I mind if they smoke I say no.

The person understands perfectly that your smoking habit shows you are either stupid or weak willed or both. Your wanting to smoke around non-smokers then shows that you are selfish and inconsiderate. Inconsiderate smokers will cause more and more laws to be passed until they can basically can smoke nowhere. It isn't the dark ages anymore. People have the right to go to work etc without encountering life threatening carcinogens. I know some states are mostly populated by the ignorant are being dragged kicking and screaming into the future, but the forward thinking jurisdictions don't allow smoking in anyplace where someone is employed or that does business with the public. People and businesses can't dump their toxins anywhere they want. Smoking is no different. The health issues of exposure to cigarette smoke has been known for decades. Smoking in public is like a very sick person going to the buffet and coughing and sneezing all over all the food that everyone will eat. The way people feel about the very sick person at the buffet is how they feel about people that smoke in public. The health issues are the same. You can't breath without being exposed to 70 different carcinogens over 4,000 nasty chemicals. Given that cigarettes are deadly to the smokers and those that are forced to breath the smoke, make everyone around the smoke stink, cause people to see you as very stupid/weak willed, cause people to think you are an ass for smoking around other people, and make people sick by promoting an allergic type reaction that causes a good environment for germs to take root and grow only the worst sorts of assholes still smoke in public. Or the person lives in an area populated by ignorant people.

Nice bigoted narrow minded post Three. One thing you neglect to understand in your lengthy meandering preachy reply is that the casinos and the person smoking in the casinos are within their rights to do what they’re doing. I thought trucker made an excellent post defending the right of a person to smoke where it’s allowed. If you don’t like it, don’t go to a casino! A smoker is within their rights to smoke there, until our country or states changes the law. I don’t smoke and don’t like second hand smoke but I also understand other people’s rights and laws. Maybe someone day you will too.

The good old news is you have me on ignore so you won’t have to reply to my post.

People have the right to be as big an asshole as they want. Most people choose not to do so if the behavior is offensive to others. There is nothing more offensive than people or corporations poisoning the environment we all share.

Then don't go to a casino that allows smoking. It's really that simple.

I meat assholes of all types. They are everywhere. But most don't do things that threaten everyone's health. That is a special kind of asshole. I don't care if the idiot has a death wish but how many people genetically predisposed to get cancer did they kill by exposing them to 70 carcinogens because it is their right to be an asshole. Being genetically predisposed to get a certain cancer doesn't mean you will get it. It is the exposure to carcinogens that trigger the cancer. Most people choose not to kill people at random. Some just don't care how many they kill. Others are considerate and only kill themselves. If you ever had a relative with cancer you could be genetically predisposed to get it. When you are dying of cancer or watch a loved one suffer a slow and painful death to it you will care more about people and industries that do things that cause people die from cancer.

Most smokers I encounter are considerate but there are some real assholes out there. I don't care if they smoke as long as I don't have to breath toxic air because of it. Considerate smokers do they best to make sure I don't when they smoke. Assholes just blow it in everyone's face and put their smoldering cigarette where it offends everyone. With a minimal amount of effort they wouldn't be doing that. But it is too much to ask for some people not to be offensive to everyone around them.

Then don't go to casinos that allow smoking. They have as much right to smoke in them as you have to be there. I'm a smoker myself, and I do agree that it is impolite to blow smoke around other people, especially non-smokers and kids (I hate people who do the latter). But if the law allows it then it's how it is. A more constructive thing to do would be to lobby for a total smoking ban in casinos nationwide than sit there loathing the smokers around you.

Like I said most are considerate smokers but some are real assholes. The assholes tend to learn to be considerate or avoid me. I have a way of rallying everyone against them. They get the message. Some have been removed by the casino staff for assaulting people with their smoke. The casino staff hates it as well but can't do anything without customer complaints. Always ask for the table to be non-smoking as soon as the smokers are gone or before they show up. Guess who is asked to leave when a drink is accidentally spilled across the inconsiderate smokers spot. All the fanning away of the smoke often causes drinks to be spilled. Then there are fewer spots being played at just the right time. The biggest complaints from smokers and non-smokers on casino visits is the fowl stench and toxic environment when people get assaulted by the smoke. I feel sorry for those that are either too stupid and/or weak willed to avoid suicidal behavior in this day that we know just how bad smoking is. Then you get the parents that cause their kids be weak and sickly from smoking around them. They just love the death sticks more than their kids. It makes me very sad to see such daily systematic child abuse. The kids are almost always asthmatics with psoriasis. I mean 100 years ago they called them coffin nails. It isn't like anyone today doesn't know what they are doing to themselves and everyone they smoke around. They just don't care about themselves or anyone they smoke around. Maybe Australia is still in the last century when it comes to a clean environment and protecting innocent people from being exposed to toxic waste. Some states are still like that in the US but most in my region take peoples right to breath non-deadly air seriously. Most smokers understand and don't need laws to get them to do what is right. Some people just don't care about the environment we all must share. The prevalence of that attitude is why the world is so polluted with toxins.

I probably shouldn't have gotten started but that is how most people feel. It is ironic that the two worst drugs, tobacco and alcohol, are the two drugs that are legal while other much less harmful substances are illegal.

Quite the opposite actually. A universal smoking ban inside and near public venues was introduced in the early 2000s, there's a hefty tobacco tax that would make Americans faint, tobacco is plain packaged and covered in graphic anti-smoking ads, and we have one of the lowest smoking rates in the developed world (was about 12-14% last time I heard).

But I digress. I think claiming that you are being "assaulted" is a little far fetched. If it bothers you that much then don't visit stores that allow smoking. It is better for your health in more ways than one...
