    Post Opinions Needed

Good afternoon: New to the forum and have a few questions for those more advanced than I:

No casino near me on a nightly basis so only bar blackjack available
    - 4 decks
    - dealer cut cut at approx. 1 deck depth
    - 8 positions/table
    - $5 min bet
    - $25 max bet
    - Bankroll of approx. $2000 from poker/whatever

I use basic hi low card count method.

    1. What should count be when bet amount increases?
    2. What should I sit down to begin the session?
    - Have thought $200, but unsure
    3. Is the correct strategy to begin with $5 (min bet) until count is in my favor?

*** If futher details are needed, please let me know and I can provide.

I have stayed away from blackjack because of success in poker, but looking for other avenues................... Thank you very much for any assistance/opinion provided

Is this game a machine? Hand shuffled?

    What are the rules?

You use Hilo but are you proficient and how many indexes are you using?

2,000 is a hail mary bankroll. High risk of ruin.
Luck is nothing more than probability taken personally!

    1. What should count be when bet amount increases?
Depends on the unlisted rules. Probably +2 true count, maybe +1 if the rules are good.
    2. What should I sit down to begin the session?
    30 max bets.

I always enjoy a nice four deck game.

On a 4 deck shoe, let's assume you spread from $5-$50, I would carry with me a minimum of $500 when I sit down at the table. I am not giving you advice, just telling you what I do. I am reluctant to sit at a table without 10 max bets.

It sounds like a great game except for the $25 max bet. If it is a bar game, you may be able to sit out until it is +1TC and then just flat bet $25 till the count goes down below +1TC. If they will allow, you can play multiple hands or add some chips to other players spots if you can.

Great game, so play for all it's worth. I'd increase to $15 on TC +2 and $25 on TC +3 and 2x$25 on TC +5+. Buy in for $200/$400 but always take your full bank roll if poss.
Good chance of going bust but if you don't speculate you can't accumulate and it's such a good game just get another bankroll if you do. Enjoy it while you can. Certainly don't leave when you're up just $100. Keep going.....

Just to be super duper clear, the reason people are saying bring so much to the table is to avoid finding youself in a situation where the count is high and you have run out of money or where you have a bet out and cannot split/double an adequate amount of times (in a double-after-split game especially you are at a higher risk of a combination of that occurring). Both situations are really REALLY bad for your EV. Having to walk away from a table (especially a shoe game where you're playing all) where you finally have an advantage is not good. That means if your max bet is out there, you may have to rebuy in multiple times. That is the time where you make money (and, incidentally, often where you will experience the more painful swings and lose money from your bankroll, which is why $2000 isn't much and has a high RoR; if you're playing a winning game though overall, you're winning more than you're losing here). So, take enough to be able to buy in a lot; I take "as much as I can" (within reason). Certainly it isn't hard to fit $2000 in your pockets. Main rule is, don't sit down at a table with a stop-loss in mind. Sure, if you only want to lose $100 in a session then you can leave at any point the count is especially negative (unlikely to recover) or at the end of a shoe when the count resets. But be prepared to lose more: if the count is really high halfway through the shoe, you have to keep on betting, whether fortune is with you that session or not.

As for how much to buy in with, I don't think there is as much of a "right" answer. Different people have different preferences for different reasons. At a shoe game I generally buy in initially for 20 min-bets (whatever my min-bet is... "1 unit", not necessarily the table minimum); it isn't much, but it's enough to get through a shoe, and also easily book a loss (but not too big of one) if I lose it quick and end up at the end of a shoe or at a very negative count.

    One other thought:

I would qualify that statement; leave whenever you want as long as the shoe isn't currently at a positive count. If it is a place you want to play at regularly, I wouldn't sit there for too long for fear of being backed off unless you know there is little to no heat. But yeah, it doesn't matter how far up or down you are for a session, do not leave if you are in the middle of a shoe playing at a positive count (or there is some other advantageous situation that is not always available, like a dealer exposing hole cards or unusually deep penetration for the game).
