On the news this morning, they were talking about bike to work day.
The commentator said biking to work once a week can decrease your carbon footprint by 20%.
Can someone run a sim or CA to verify that?
Thanks.
Hmmm
If the average work week is 5 days, and you are spewing carbon monoxide into the atmosphere by driving to work, then decide to bike to work one day out of the 5, or 20% of the time, then, that would reduce your carbon footprint by approximately 20%. Please note, the factor of heavier breathing by biking, is not taken into account.
Methinks you have another point
Sure, if you work 5 days a week, and your ENTIRE CARBON FOOTPRINT consists exclusively of your communtes to work... then yes. However, my sims show driving making up 10-20% of your carbon footprint, and the commute to work ~70% of that. So, I'm getting an average of 2.1% reduction in carbon footprint. Much smaller than the 20% given by the braindead news, but still decent EV for the environment, too large a gain to ignore.
Edit: also added benefit of reducing ROR of human survival from cataclysmic climate change
If you factor in that biking to work will make this person healthier and thus live longer, this will probably have a negative impact on the carbon footprint. Every year someone lives, they do things to hurt the carbon footprint.
The solution is don’t ride bikes, don’t exercise, eat all your meals at McDonalds and die young. Now there’s a great solution to the carbon footprint problem.
