Newbie hoping for a warm welcome...

    Hey all,
Been lurking for the past couple weeks. Seems like a great community (for the most part).
I am completely new to card counting and did some research online. I am wondering if some of you would be kind enough to share your expertise on my game.

I basically play at a $100 - $3000 table with the following rules:
    -6 deck
    -1 to 1.5 deck pen
    -DAS
-Double and split on any 2
    -Split up to 4 times
-Aces split only once, and one card
    -BJ pays 3 to 2

Ive been using a standard level 1 count but have been reading that an unbalanced level 2 zen would be best for the above game? Any tips/advice is much appreciated!

There are lots of tips people can share and some apply and some may not apply to different people.

    1. Figure out your ROR and that you're comfortable with that level of risk.
    2. Make sure you're playing properly (there's software for that).
    3. The count you use, for the most part, really doesn't matter.

In listing the rules for the game you didn't say if it was S17 or H17. Also didn't mention if surrender was available.

I'm kind of puzzled why you would be playing a $100 min game if you are just starting out with card counting.

Changing counts is the last thing to consider. Otherwise, its like going out and buying the same golf clubs that Tiger Woods uses so you could play putt putt golf! A whole lot of people are succesful counters using a level 1 count.

Make sure to master basic strategy and a reasonable number of index plays. Spend time practicing at home. Level one count is fine. Play lower stakes.

Thanks for all the responses. To add on - it is a S17 and no surrender. The reason why I play the $100 min is because anything lower are ASMs. My bankroll is about $30k.
Can anybody recommend any indexes to use for level 1 count? Thanks again!

Not everyone will agree but I'm fine with ASMs and have been since they first appeared.

The Illustrious 18 will get you started on index play but listen to the others and don't put the cart before the horse.

    What is your betting spread?

    1 to 8 spread

I have no problem with ASMs, either. IMO, playing $100 min with a 30K BR is a recipe for disaster.

Re index plays learn the I-18. You can find it in Blackjack Attack 3. Its author (DSchles) posts on this forum.

Make sure you mean ASMs and not CSMs. If the former, what is your problem with them?

Presumably you mean CSMs. 30k roll with $100 min tables doesn't leave you much room for a spread. You want to have at least 100 max bets in your bankroll. Technically you could do it especially if you have the game if the count gets even moderately negative, but your best bet is to not play and spend time practicing at home instead.

Sorry folks - I meant CSMs.
Yeah unfortunately I have no other choice of games locally.
As for the I-18 index, there seems to be a number of variations posted (presumably based on the rules of the game?). I would like to know the optimal index variations for this particular game.
Lastly, which software would be ideal for practice?

    Thanks

You are screwed. With a $100 min bet and 1 to 8 spread your risk of ruin is around 47% assuming 1.5 decks cutoff. You are probably better off traveling someplace that has lower minimums. Usually there is a casino somewhere within a 3 or 4 hour drive.
