Any given system's average performance and HE calculation

    Hi,

New user here, with a couple of probably inane questions, but hopefully they are straightforward enough to answer. I have searched for the HE one, but I just need a little clarification.

    1. When calculating the average performance of a method, the figure that is given is simply its advantage over the off-the-top HE, yes? So for example, in a multi-deck KO game with a 1-10 spread the actual assistance the method provides is approximately 1.27%, on average?

    2. I recently started to visit a very small casino that's close by as it's quite new and I was getting a little weary of the only other two options. However, upon working out the off-the-top HE using various calculators or manual addition of several authors' numbers, I'm getting anywhere from 0.15+ > 0.25+ in my favour. Which, if any, is most accurate?

    3. Assuming my HE calc is accurate, would that mean that on average, in a multi deck game at this casino I'd be getting about 1.4% over time?

    4. If the edge is accurate, would you simply flat bet? Unfortunately the place is small, (only 3 BJ tables) and max bets are 250-500 depending on day.

Thanks for any and all assistance

    Slam,

    Welcome to the board!

I don't understand your first question. Where did you get the "1.27%" figure?

As for your second question, if you post the house rules (number of decks, S17/H17, whether or not double after split (DAS) is allowed, whether or not any form of surrender is allowed, any doubling restrictions, does the dealer check for blackjack before or after the players play their hands, the blackjack bonus), I or someone else here can easily tell you the house edge.

By the way, the "usual" assumptions are these: no doubling restrictions (called "double any two" or DA2), no surrender, dealer peeks for BJ before players play (called "American hole card"), and BJ pays 3:2. The other options, number of decks, S17/H17, and DAS or NDAS, should always be stated explicitly.

I will say that I seriously doubt that the player has an off-the-top edge simply flat-betting, although in years past such games were available.

Hi, I don't understand what the hell I meant with the 1.27 either, but it was almost 2am here... Edit - I do understand. What I meant was at average +%s, it's given you about that from where you began. If we begin at -.54 and it gives +.77 or whatever then the actual change in edge is the 1.2x figure. Sorry

    Deck rules are:
    3:2
    6D
    S17
    75% pen
Double any two (inc soft totals)
    DAS
    Split aces
    Split to four
    Resplit Aces
    Early Surrender (inc Ace)
    ENHC

Cool, thanks. As I said I had got lots of different numbers as I couldn't find a calc that would let me put everything in and I wanted something up-to-date.

    Thank you again, Phoebe.

Looking at the numbers, with the table max available, it's a shame the HE is so good.
