Insurance count for 6D using HiLo.

I read somewhere that with the insurance in SD that if the count is 0 then you can insure certain hands for variance reduction; soft hands, 8 - 11 and 18 - 21. My question is does this also apply to 6D? Or should the count be higher for 6D? TIA.

I'm not really sure how to answer your question, except to suggest, that since the strikepount for insurance increases with number of decks in play, then yes, the count should be higher. Hi lo dd is 2.4 p, 6d is 3.0 - for halves dd is 2.7, 6d us 3.4.

If you are asking a slightly different question, such as do you ever insure below index, the answer for me is yes. I will insure good hands slightly below index, tend to avoid insurance on crappy hands right at index, but will insure virtually everything on stronger remaining deck compositions.

In 6d you should not insure any hands at TC 0, but as you get closer to the index it can make sense to buy partial or full insurance on strong hands. I will usually insure for full with 20 or 21 (some places you can buy insurance after you have completed your hand) at TC 2.

What's the cost of insuring 20/21 at the lower limit?
