    A9 Double Indexes

Other than in a situation where you are say, just about to leave the casino or heat isn't an issue, would you stay away from doubling A9 according to the indexes? How much heat do these indexes generate. Comparable to splitting 10s?

A9 not so much as 10s. I've seen several plops double A9. Many just see a soft hand vs 5 or 6 and go crazy.

From observation, splitting tens generally piques interest, heat or not. A9 on the other hand would be a case by case basis, depending on casino/pit crew, etc. From my general experience A9 is such a rare index and players make stupid doubles so often that it's never been an issue ( to the best of my knowledge).

    You sound awful worried.

Okay, thanks. Not worried, just totally curious whether or not it was a tell

It is pretty rare as stated above so personally I don't even bother. There has been times where just doubling A8v6 brings ploppy heat, not that it matters but under certain scenarios ploppy heat can lead to real heat from the pit.

Haha yeah I had some ploppys get mad at me for doubling A7 before, I was at third base and got a 10 that would've busted the dealer, but he ended up hitting 21. The dealer then explained to me that I never should've doubled with an 18, and that I caused everyone at the table to lose.

I just acted concerned and sorry that I didn't know what I was doing (laughing inside)

Just say you are the most unlucky SOB that ever lived and it doesn't matter what you do the dealer will hit out to 21 most of the time at your table. With the seed planted in their mind it won't be long for the ploppies selective memory to start believing it. Guess what happens when they believe it.

I don't split 10s, but I don't pass up the double on A9 v. 5 and 6 in high counts. Those opportunities are just too juicy to pass up. Put on your "gambler" act for these hands. They'll scratch their heads, but it doesn't rate in the same heat stratum as splitting 10s.

The reactions of Asian players make the unusual plays worthwhile for entertainment value. They even get upset when you hit your A7 v (9,T,A) or split 99 v 8 or 9 appropriately.
