For someone who has never used blackjack software, what program would you guys recommend for getting EV, ROR, inputting custom rules, etc.
Appreciate the input
Meistro, I know you are well intentioned but I wouldn't suggest CV Data for a beginner. I would suggest CVBJ first; then CVCX. And as he advances, then he could purchase CV Data. But would you really suggest that for a beginner? I personally think it would overload him.

CVBJ - Practice software, very realistic and good. You can customize the game, your count, and it'll warn you about errors you make. Plus a bunch'a other stuff.
CVCX - Simulation software. Input the rules of the game, your spread, bankroll, desired risk, and other stuff, and it'll tell you the EV/hour, proper bet ramp, advantage, CE, and bunch'a other stuff. You can change stuff to get the desired results you want (EG: "What happens if I make my ramp this, or what if my BR is X, or how does spreading to 2 hands at this count affect my game, or wonging out at Y count...."). Plus, IME it helped me learn the game more in general about what kind of differences in play have big or small impacts.
CVData - I haven't used it, but AFAIK, similar to CVCX but more advanced and confusing AF, but you can do more customizble stuff with it than you can with CVCX. Probably not required for a beginner (or even most card counters), unless you find yourself in a situation where you really want to sim a game with some weird component to it.
I definitely recommend the first two: CVCX and CVBJ.
