    Internet privacy

Back when we set up HTTPS encryption on this site, we had a discussion on privacy. Although HTTPS encrypts all messages, it does not encrypt IP numbers. If a casino were to implement its own DNS server, it could log IP numbers used. This doesn’t seem that likely – but is possible. That doesn’t mean they could trace a message directly to this site; but they could trace it to one of my sites which use the same IP number. They still couldn’t see the content, but would know the group of sites you visit.

If this is a concern to you, there is a way around any DNS servers that log IPs. Yesterday, Cloudflare announced a new DNS server focused on privacy. By specifying that their DNS server be used, your messages would be routed around any casino DNS server (or ISP server for that matter). It’s also purportedly a bit faster. Setting this up is simple and explained at https://1.1.1.1/.

Incidentally, this can also be used to get around Internet censorship in some countries. (It won’t get around any IPs that I have banned.) DNS over TLS and DNS over HTTPS are also supported which will allow encryption of IP numbers when the browsers catch up to these new protocols.

Norm - wouldn't a VPN accomplish the same thing?

And what's in it for them?

This can be set up in a minute with no software and no special network.
