When to Double Down on a Soft 21?

After splitting 10's what would the TC need to be to DD on a soft 21?

Depends, what count are you using and what is the dealer upcard? IIRC it starts at +9 for hi lo.

I would only split the 10's if the dealer upcard was a 5 with a TC of 5+ or a 6 with a TC of 4+.

And if the shoe is still ace rich? Further, are you slash and burn or longevity. Are you at stakes that make the invitation for the tap worthwhile, is are you talking about a $100 max bet. If the latter, why would you burn yourself out while you're still nit seasoned?

For the same reason you would make any decision in BJ - because it's mathematically the best play.

The index is even higher than doubling on soft 20. For Hi-Lo users, it is about +18. So basically you should forget about it.

Actually, I believe the index is more like +8 vs 6. The index for doubling A9 v 6 is only +4.

I agree. Part of making the right decision is about weighing certainty not purely chasing EV. Another aspect is avoiding heat. Splitting T,T draws a target on you enough already without trying to double the 21 it gets you. Part of winning is being allowed to play. How much EV is worth losing the ability to play?

The usual for this board: nine "non-answers." Lots of preaching and equivocating.

    Here's an actual answer: For Hi-Lo multi-deck, +14, +12, +10, +8, and +8 vs. 2-6, respectively.

    Don

To reiterate a little bit into what others have said already. You might win 20 cents more by splitting the tens or doubling the soft 20, but how many hours will you lose due to the earlier tap OR how much more risk are you creating for minimal gains that are technically mathematically correct. Of course if risk is not important to you the mathematical play is the best one in an ideal world, but in the eyes of the house the only reason you splits tens is because you are crazy, drunk, or very good. Just remember that.
