Thread: Need I-18 Cards

    Need I-18 Cards

Where can I get I-18 color-coded cards for practicing? HP doesn't seem to have them. No, I don't plan to use them in casinos!

I've seem them on-line, but the print-out resolution is poor, with + and - often indistinguishable.

I religiously use Norm's practice at least an hour/day--including holidays. It's had a significant effect on my casino play. Now,

if I can only master CVData and CVCX I'll be unstoppable!

It's 2018, why do you need a physical card? Just use your smartphone. Get Norm's Casino Verite Drills. It's better than cards anyway.

    ... +1 .....I agree fully.

    Diogenes,

If you cannot learn (without help) a dozen and a half indices in under an
hour you may lack the "right stuff" ~ but you can always take up knitting.

I recommend >100 indices with advanced counts.

Note: An hour, as cited above, is a damn long time for such a simple task.

You're right! If I can get that card, I can learn in an hour. That's what I did with
Revere's Advanced + -. I've been using it until recently. So I have to "unlearn" it
    although indices are similar.

My eyesight is getting worse, so I'm using Norm's drills that mask the numerics.

People learn differently, and I'm an outlier. So I need a card. Sorry. But thanks for
    the knitting advice.

If you have Don's book, BJA, you can copy; laminate and make your own card. Laminate it after you copy/color it for example. Just a little research can get you similar cards with indexes that work. You can find them at Blackjack Science for sale if you want to buy them. You can find them from BJ Info from Ken Smith for sale at his store IF you really want to buy an I-18 card. It's not that hard to find one that is useable for sale. But the advice given by posters above is more than adequate for you to learn, no matter which learning method works best for you. And I know we all learn by different means.

Thanks, Golf. Will do so immediately. This is the kind of specific, helpful, and non-judgmental post I expected from BJTF!

BTW, Zenmaster, if I do follow your advice and take up knitting, I trust you will similarly direct me to some elementary knitting books.

If you pm me, or post a throwaway email, I'll send you a blank basic strategy card. I also learn better "old school" so I use the software for drills, but the pencil and paper for learning. You can also make your own easily in excell, then fill in the blanks.

If you use HiLo, this is a set of "stealth" (not to be confused with Stealth, BJTF member) cards for games with different rules. The indices are discretely noted on the cards. Others may (probably will) disagree, but I did use these in casinos when I was beginning. It looks like a regular basic strategy card, and I've never found a casino to disallow a player to have a basic strategy card at the table.

Also, Three's suggestion if memorizing them in a line is a good one. For example, my 16 indices are 14, 13, 7, 0, 5. I memorized them together. So I "hear" the entire line in my head.

Another suggestion is to start with 0 and work your way out. That didn't work as well for me, but a friend had success grouping the 0s, the 1s, etc.

Thanks, RCH. Just ordered them from Amazon. Just what I was looking for!

Sorry, Zenmaster, but with these 12 new cards I'm ramping up my practice to 2 hours/day. I'm an old dog who has to learn 1/2 dozen new tricks.

Why do people need to pay for basic strategy cards?

Doesn’t everyone know how to use spreadsheet software? With the right software, whether MS Excel, OpenOffice or LibreOffice, you can make your own color coded charts.
