    pit boss becoming an ally

I am having a really strange gambling experience. I am counting cards in a non-BJ game, and eventually pit boss says, "Congratulations, I've never seen anyone count this game before." Then later when he sees me after I took a break he comments, "There's a new shoe over there if you're not leaving yet." Later on he gives me advice on counting in a discrete way.

As I am making big bets later he's watching me with another boss and says to him, "First time in history this has ever happened. It's fun to watch him though." This is in a state where technically back offs are not allowed, only other countermeasures. I've never played in a casino where everyone knows what I'm up to, but they just sit there and watch me play. What does all this mean? Should I just keep hanging out here? Will they do something soon, and they're just waiting and having fun with me?

I think if youre not effecting their bottom line and they dont see more people on their table doing the same thing then they are probably going to be cool with it if your amusing them. I think you shouldnt teach anyone ..can you teach me?

    Warning:

I have had this happen to me. I even had a pit critter at Caesars A.C.
side-count the Aces for me while I was betting $100 to $1,200. Betting
bigger than that, I also had it happen to me at Foxwoods Casino in CT.

When this happens, it always leads to being 86'd. By "helping" you,
the easily confirm your predatory intentions, and on your next visit
you'll be 86'd. Play too long and they will "back you off" when the shift
changes or you have simply played too long.

Be careful about surprisingly friendly critters. They may well be friendly, but at the end of the day, they have a job to do.

Having said that, if you do happen to get into one of those relationships, it doesn't hurt to get info on the inside workings of the House, which I have done. Hell, I'm even mentoring a critter.

One measure is that it takes surveillance about 45 minutes to confirm you are counting.

Counters have a sixth sense, and often know right away. Ive sat down, and founded ace trackers, shuffle trackers, card counters. Card counters are the easiest, usually.

I recall Once at GN Vegas, I sat down, asked the guy next to me if he would move a square - I suspected him from his growl, he suspected me from my request, and the fact that i didn't come in misplaced shoe. He had just moved to a city that I frequent. We met for coffee a few times.

You have to think about the possible upsides and downsides.

It would be great to have a Pit Boss in your corner (are you sure they were a PB and not just some lower level PC wearing a suit)?

IMHO the potential downside if you become too comfortable with them is greater than the potential upside. Pit Bosses really don't even have the power to do as much for you as they used to. I have had a few PC's help me out over the years, but they were always someone I knew from outside of casino play. Even then, I have always made sure I did not ask for any favors that would make them uncomfortable. You have to keep acting as if you don't know anything about advantage play. Don't laugh at the jokes, just adopt a quizzical look on your face.

Out of curiosity, did you think the tips he gave you on counting with discretion were valid? Were they things you already knew, or were they valuable tips? That information could help you determine how sincere he is.

    +1.

I play at a casino where everyone knows I count. I'm also sort of countermeasured there.

They either don't care about your stakes, or they dont consider you a threat. From your prior posts, I suspect the former. Demeanour, comportment etc., also play a factor.

What does sorta kinda countermeasured mean. I remember decades ago, teen years, kinda sorta getting laid. It was a lot of fun, but just wasn't the real thing.

How are you countermeasured? BTW, at my former home casino every PC knew I was counting.

    Hmm, heat, let's see
Half shoe, dual critter stare down, critter on phone staring at you, critter on phone whispering with back to you, critter texting like mad, dealer slow down to snails pace, critter interrogation as to where you're from, dealer interrogation as to where you're from, hound for a card, circumcision status, ask to scan on affirmation of circumcision status, critter leaning almost back to back with dealer - whispering instruction, critter instructing dealer - more more as to how much to cut off, convention of suits in the pit with one holding your results card, critter instructing dealer to slow it, critter asking - how is Zee (kidding on that one), lousy rulings (got a story on that one), Games Manager growling, etc etc etc.

From a humour perspective, hit 12 twice against dealer 4, getting 4 card 21, dealer loudly advising pit - Freightman is counting cards again, dealer joking to double my 12v5, instructions followed for the win, both surrendering and hitting 16v10 on 2 successive shoes, the hit garnering 21, with gaga comments, dealer whipping me into a frenzy cajoling me to bet more - I blindly followed instruction, in a nice count mind you.

One of my favourites was playing against a combo critter dealer of my approximate vintage. I complemented her on having a nice rack - she thanked me.

I'm sure there are many others.

Cool. One of the PBs at my former home casino always greats me with a "MY FAVORITE CARD COUNTER!"

    That's ungentlemanly.

Maybe so, but it was heads up, the conversation went that way, and she appreciated the comment.

And, just to be clear, I wasn't referring to the chip rack.
