    Insurance - KO vs CBJ

Hi all - I am a new here and really enjoying trolling through threads, both old and new. A lot of really interesting -- and some dubious -- info!

I'm a former occasional recreational gambler who is working on conversion to proper, hopefully profitable BJ (I know, I know - patience, grasshopper...): I've gone cold turkey on gambling. Memorized the BS for my local casino (6D, H17, DAS, No Surrender) and am working on KO (not interested in TC conversion).

I read about Color of Blackjack here (or maybe in another forum) and many positive comments about it so got it. Just finished it and thought it was a smart betting system to apply to KO. I didn't read it as a major change to the KO count or index play. In comparing to initial index plays (KO Preferred) I became curious about the insurance trigger. In KO the trigger is RC +3 (KO page 83) and in CBJ its 'hot' or +24. Those seem really far apart for the same base system. I bought CVBJ but haven't got the sim program and can't imagine both answers are correct or that their both so loosey goosey as to be approximately equivalent. I tried searching here and elsewhere for an old thread but no luck.

    What am I missing here?

Thanks and best of the season!

Most likely one has an IRC quite negative and the other has an IRC of 0.

KO is unbalanced and different variations of the system start with a different initial running count.

As a rule of thumb you can safely make the insurance bet using this formula

    Take insurance at = IRC + (# of decks*4)

For good hands you can be a little risk averse and take it a tad bit earlier.

The COB strategy in CVBJ uses zero as the initial running count as per Dravot's book.

Thank you. That makes sense...in my excitement to read it my first parse was a pretty quick skim!
